Just stick to things that sound reasonably tolerable to you.  I could never puree tuna or something.  I could manage it with scrambled eggs and feta though, because it just seemed like the same idea as scrambled eggs and that didn't phase me.  Other than that I just went for foods that were naturally near puree anyway.  I lived off of protein shakes and yogurt though in the early days.

Oh yes, and for sure in the chest.  It got better much slower than the stomach surgery too.  Noticably better after a week, a bit better after two.  I then tried the elliptical and that aggravated it.  Around week three I tried to go for a walk in the bitter cold and that also aggravated it.  It will completely heal though and I never had acid issues after the repair, so it was sooooo worth it!

Topic: RE: gaining weight after year and a half

You are taking a great first step by recognizing that you have a problem.  You can do something about it still, the sleeve still works!  Ditto what the poster before me said, and add in exercise.  Even a 30 minute walk can do wonders.  Log everything, hit your protein targets, and keep your cals under 1200.  Rid your house of all junk and trigger food and fill it with healthy choices that work for your lifestyle.  Go to support meetings.  You have the power to make positive choices!  Early out it really helped me a lot to think about making just one good choice at a time, and not thinking long term about the weight loss.  Hang in there :)

Topic: RE: Offically one week Post-Op and regreting my decison

I had low blood sugar issues, and also could tolerate a lot of food (relatively speaking of course) compared to the typical poster here.  Milk helped a lot- before I went to sleep I had 4-6 ounces.  I kept something by the bed, and usually ate 1 or 2 Tums in the middle of the night for a few carbs.  During the day, I ate something with a little carbs when I first woke up.  The rest of the time I just spaced everything out.  I did get most of my protein from shakes and yogurt with added protein and that helped even out the blood sugar.  You are too soon out to add real food yet.

Try not to worry about the weight loss.  It will happen for you!

Annie,

It seems like you have the ability to help a lot of folks in your area.  You should consider making a commitment to facilitate the meetings regularly.  It would help both you and all the others :)  I am proud of the choice you made and how effective you were at redirecting the meeting to a more productive path!

Topic: RE: 9 days until surgery and my marriage is falling apart

I am so sorry that you are having to struggle with this.  It is excellent that you have plainned to have your friend with you for support, because support will be very importaint for you during this process.  Get started in your local support group too if it is available, and of course we are always here.  Is it possible that he may just be scared for you to go in?  My husband, who is been wonderful, was terrified of losing me or me having to deal with awful side effects.  It made sense to him for me to just stay fat and not risk those two possible outcomes.  Of course, by 3 days after surgery he was ready to sign himself up because he saw how well I was doing :)   Perhaps once your surgery is done your husband will be more supportive once he knows that it will be ok?  Here is hoping.

Oh, and if he is not supportive... clean your house out now of all the crap food and stock that pantry with bariatric friendly items so you don't have to rely on him fetching things for you at the grocery store.  If he insists on having junk food in the house maybe compromise and keep it stored in an out of the way place like the basement or spare bedroom or something.  I still don't have the ability to stay out of that crap, so I just have to make sure it is removed from the house.

Topic: RE: MFP and adding exercise....

Yes and no.  I always add in my exercise because I like to look at the trends over a week or month or what have you.  It helps me keep tabs on patterns creeping in that are not so good or patterns that are improving.  I never consciously say that I am going to eat back the calories, but every so often it happens.  Keep up with the exercise because I feel very strongly that I would have never made it to goal if I didn't start regularly exercising.  My body just plain needs it!

Baby cheesecakes.  Make it with Light greek yogurt, sugar free jello pudding, and top with a raspberry or something like that.  For the crust I ground up Kays Naturals cinnamon protein cookies.  It really was a good substitute and the nutrition profile made it bariatric friendly, low in cals, and goo protein :0)  I will go see if I can dig up the recipe, but it is posted on here somewhere.   Edit: When I made this before I used the Fage plain fat free yogurt and sugar free cheesecake pudding mix.  I think the ratio was 1 cup yogurt to 2 tablespoons mix... but check Eggface to see if she has a recipe posted.  I thought I loaded it in mfp, but I didn't.

Topic: RE: Weird Stall - Anyone else have this?

It is really common to see this around the 3 month or so mark, so just hang in there.  It was about that time my loss pattern changed from consistent increments to a stair step pattern.  I would go 2-3 weeks with no loss, then 1 week of rapid loss (up to 10 pounds), then back to 2-3 weeks of no loss.  It freaked me out a bit the first time because I was scared I wouldn't lose any more, prayed that it was stair step the second cycle through, and learned by the third cycle that it was going to be just fine.  Just keep working your plan and it will work!  Oh, and hang in there.... 3 weeks is enough to test your mettle for sure!

Day 1 is the hardest and it seems you faired well, congratulations!  Do try to walk as much as you comfortably can- that helps immensely with the gas pain.  It took me a few days to be rid of that.  By day 7 you will be shocked at how much better you feel!  I am surprised about the hunger and wonder if you may have some acid issues going on, which can mimic hunger.  Be sure to take it easy with an acidic stuff like orange juice and such.  Also perhaps ask the doc about an acid reducer and if it may be appropriate for you.  You will be home before you know it!

Yes, for sure.  Last week, for example, I felt like I probably was going to weigh in 5 pounds over my goal.  I had not been eating great and just felt super fat.  I was shocked to weigh in a few pounds under goal, as I truly felt like I was over.  I put myself in weight loss mode for a few days and lost 7 pounds, am at my lowest point ever, and still am feeling a little fat.  I am suspecting it is a fluid issue, but need to monitor it.  I would go back and forth with this all during my weight loss phase.  Some days felt super thin (relatively speaking) and other days super fat.  Hang in there and keep yourself on plan!

My advice- reschedule.  Don't let fear dictate your health.  I cannot express enough how common it is for all of us to feel like we will be the one it will not work for.  If you do decide to back out, perhaps at least go in for visits to a nutritionist and join some type of support group- it will help.  My only other thought is that surgery will only get more expensive as time goes on...

1.  Dehydration- get your fluids in if this is an issue.

2.  Hypoglycemia- low blood sugar.  I had problems with this early out.

3.  Low blood pressure- the most pervasive.  Had to increase sodium in the diet.  Add canned chicken broth or something like that along with fluid intake and see if that helps.  Chicken broth only if on plan...

I did not have issues with dehydration, but loads of issues with the other two.  My husband had it for these reasons:

4.  Needed to stop his metformin due to weight loss, as it caused the blood sugar to go low.

5.  Needed to stop his high blood pressure medicine, as the weight loss made it so he didn't need it.

Hopefully you can figure it out, because I know how much of a pain it is!  Feel better!

I had the repair, and that caused far more discomfort then the sleeve surgery- not that it was all that bad or anything.  Tons of burping post op, but now back to normal.  Don't gulp if that is bothering you.  I had horrible reflux before, and none now.  I hope this is true for you too.  Hang in there and there is nothing to be concerned about- it is very common to have hernia repairs for sleeve surgeries.  Think of it as a 2 for 1!

I would gently suggest to regift it- and quick.  Willpower around sugar is not my strong suit.  In my classroom it is crazy how much sugar I receive as gifts, and I would NEVER want to make a student feel bad about giving me the deliciousness.  On the other hand, I spread that around to folks who have the ability to moderate that junk better than I do.  Hang in there.  I decided that from my surgiversary (1 year today) through New Year's I am going into weight loss mode again just to help me avoid over indulging on sugar.  If I lose a little over the 2 weeks then so be it, but that is so much better than gaining!  I am glad you are able to focus on that people are just trying to be kind.  I am surprised though that you were open about surgery and you are still getting that much crap- how about a nice fruit arrangement instead!
