When I was in for wls my hospital roommate just had her gallbladder out.  She declined all pain meds and had similar pain as far as moving around- both of us were moving around great very early out.  I would think that if you can put 2 weeks between surgery and classes you would be ok, but run it by the doc.  I do not see any advantage to putting it off.

There is a saying liquid in liquid out.  I never had an issue with that at your stage, but I did just get over a terrible bout of diarhea.  Somebody suggested immodium, and acbrown warned me against it.  I took it anyway.  I really think they need to change the name to "immobolized the colon" because I went right from liqued lightning to no activity for 6 days.  Really- just one little pill.  I have spent the last two days popping colace.  Things are moving along today a bit now...

Just be careful with immodium!

 Congrats on your loss!

Yes, I am easily able to eat either- but choose to rarely eat those items.  A few noodles in a cup of chicken noodle soup perhaps, or like tonight I had maybe a tablespoon of rice with the szechuan shrimp.  Pasta and rice is not so great on the glycemic index and I try to avoid food that trigger a lot of insulin production.  Not that I am perfect about that, but I do try.

Yep, and add to that folds of skin.  Oh, and the lower part of where a woman would shave is now damn near at my waist.  Nice.   I agree with shaving- really tough to get a close shave in those parts now.  That's ok though, it beats weighing a 132 pounds more :)

I thought the water bottle was a bit useless at first too, but then realized that it holds a shake perfectly.  Maybe you could freeze water in it and use it as an ice pack?  I really like this lunch kit :)

I also have one similar to your japenese style that requires a band around it- that was my first and I do really like that.  I just prefer having more dividers and the leak proof lids of the other set.

Topic: RE: 90 days PO and Nut wants to increase Carbs to 100 g
There are generally two camps on this board.  Many stay under 800 cals and 40 carbs.  I did this for the first 2 months and had issues with hypoglycemia and constipation.  I am in the other camp- my Nut wanted more carbs and cals.  I bumped up to 800-1000 cals and 100 net carbs (approximately) a day.  My weight loss rate kept humming along without a problem, and I felt a whole lot better.  I was careful with carbs- only had 15 at snacks and 30 at meals, ate 6 times a day.  Too much carb in one sitting will trigger too much insulin, then you store carbs as fat, the insulin triggers hunger and craving, and you get caught in a nasty cylcle.  After a few months of that I bumped up to 1000-1200 with the same carb load and that got me to goal.  With all the cals though I exercised 6 times a week with a typical workout being a 4-5 mile walk or an hour on the elliptical.  I also work with a much larger frame then most chics.

There are some on this board that I greatly respect that kept the cals super low until they hit goal- that totally worked for them.  However, they did not try to lose weight at the higher calorie range so they would not know for sure if it would work for them- they just assume it would not.  I am a fan of getting to goal in the healthiest way possible, and for me that meant following my Nuts advice- all of it including the exercise.

The rule I set for myself is that I would track the monthly averages.  If I fell below a 5 pound loss for a month I would adjust down the cals.  It never happened.  You do have to be honest with yourself with those cals... much easier to sneak in extra cals on that higher calore plan.

ohiogirl- this is immodium induced constipation.  I did have problems with constipation in the first 2 months, but I adjusted my eating and it was no longer a problem.  This recent bount of funky was due to illness initially.  Also, I had horrible reflux prior to surgery and none at all post op.  My surgeon found a hernia and repaired it- it has been heaven!

So a while back I was struggling with  and desperate to get it under control enough to make it back into my classroom.  Somebody suggested Immodium and Ac piped in she would be afraid of the constipation and to ride it out.  I was desparate.  The Immodium worked nearly immediately and keeps on working now several days out.  Now I am taking colace to counteract the damn immodium.  My poor digestive system must just be plain pissed at me!  Ac, next time I am totally going to heed your advice!

i am not going to attempt to confirm or deny the starvation mode theory... I just don't know.  There is a great book out there on metabolism and an analogy of a fire.  If you feed a fire a little at a time it burns great.  Feed it all at once you get a brief bigger burn, but it konks out faster.

For sure what i do know is that you can lose on 1200 calories a day.  Check my ticker for monthly results.  I am already down 10 pounds for this month (but I have been pretty sick so that is factoring in).

Topic: RE: Calories ?
I spent most of my losing phase at that calorie range.  BUT.... the first 2 months were around 800, then a couple months up around a thousand, then a couple months around 1200.  Along with the calories I exercise 6 days a week with a typical day being either 4-5 miles or an hour on the elliptical.  On the weekends I would normally do both workouts in a day.  I am pretty sure that I out eat most folks here, but at 6 weeks out I am thinking I would not have taken that much in.  I could have easily though if that is what I wanted to pursue.

I had one NUT tell me that range by the way, and on the very next appointment a different NUT say 600 calories.  There can be a lot of varience between Nuts even in the same practice.

About carbs... I do about that much each day BUT I am normally very careful how I space them out.  15 carbs at snacks, 30 carbs at meal.  If I go over that it triggers cravings.  Like today- had a little carb party and it will take me a couple days to detox from that. Not to mention my calories are going to be unually high today as a result.

Topic: RE: What are you favorite protein meals that can be made in less than 5 minutes???
baked tofu teriyaki (Trader joe), cubed.  Sear in a hot pan.  I usually put a bag of fresh pre cut veggies.  At the end a little teriyaki sauce to boost flavor and done.

Trader Joe uncured hot dogs.  Meijer makes a light hot dog bun that I just started using.  I have to admit it is nice to use a bun again.

i make my own chicken broth and in this process debone the chicken and use that.  Instead, you cold use the rotissierre chicken.  Just shred the meat and mix with your favorite barbeque sauce.  Then freeze in individual contaners.  Use with a light bun if desired, but it is nice on it's own.  I have also used it on a Tumaro tortilla (baked to crisp) and turned it into a pizza.  Anyway, the shredded chicken heat s in the mic in under a minute.

You can buy premade indian dishes in envelopes.  If you buy the lentil version the cals are not too bad and it has protein.  I would take one envelope, add rotissierre chicken, and heat in the mic.  Really great meal stupid fast.  And it is not the same old same old.

This morning I needed to give a presentation to the entire district.  The weather in Michigan can be a little nutty this time of year, cool first thing in the morning, humid and hot 20 minutes later.  I agonized over not wearing a blazer and finally decided to just try a belt and tucking in a pretty blouse.  I changed 3 times.  This is the first time that the image in the mirror was completely opposite of the fat chick in my head.  Finally my husband got through to me and off to work I went.  By lunch, I realized that I would never be anxious about that again because I knew I finally adjusted.  This is a big deal to me because when i was heavier I always hated how sloppy I always looked.  Now if I could just get rid of this damn flu or stomach bug or whatever!  (The immodium worked so well I put off  a call to the Pcp thinking that on Thursday I can go in if it is still a problem- no missed work that  way.)

Love them!!!!  They are really perfect for school.  I have several for work, but here is my favorite at the moment:

http://www.amazon.com/Lock-Rectangular-Containers-Locking-1- 4Cup/dp/B0043YIG8C/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1346109312&sr=8-9& keywords=bento+box

They really help to keep lunches interesting.  1 spot a few bing cherries, another a few slices of cucumbers, a third cottage cheese.  The larger can hold more entree type fair or soup.  The water bottle is tiny relatively speaking, but if you mix a shake at home this would be a nice size for it.

Many Japenese versions are not bpa free, dishwasher safe, or microwave safe so if that is something you want be sure it is listed specifically.

Best day- active, feel great, no longer obsessed with food, easy to make healthy choies
Worst day- battling head hunger- not too many of these, but over the course of a month probably 3 days or so

No side effects from surgery so that is  a non-issue.  Made goal so the surgery was the right path for me.  I can't comment on the revision aspect.

Topic: RE: Considering Gastric Sleeve
The typical stay is 1 or 2 days (I was 1 and declined the 2nd).  I went back to work 14 days after surgery, and this is very common.  There are people *****turn to work after a weekend.  Others take the full 6 week off for medical leave to provide ample time to adjust to the new eating.
