Topic: RE: Help please ..Looking for all the good and the bads you can tell me about the VSG
Hello, I am 7 weeks out today.

Good:
1.  I have lost 57 pounds in about 12 weeks.  Never could have done that without the sleeve.
2.  Off a few medications already.
3.  So much easier to exercise!
4.  I dig eating smaller portions!
5.  When the hubby and I go out we split a meal- big ol' savings!
6.  We go out to eat sooo much less- better for both of us!
7.  Hubby has dropped over 30 pounds- he is trying to support me, trying to lose weight too, and the sleeve is helping both of us!  Can't just wake up one day and say "Oh, i don't want the sleeve anymore- i want to go back to my bnging ways!"
8. Clothes!  They fit better and I am down a few sizes already.  Confidence is slowly improving :)
9.  I am more clear headed. No more sugar comas.
10.  If I had dieted, by now easily I would have fallen off the wagon and already started the process of regaining.  I feel like the sleeve is always there waiting to be used and it helps me to get back on track if I do slip up.
11,  OH.  This is a great bunch of folks on this site and they have been incredibly helpful.
12.  Being able to take Nsaids and steroids is very important for me.  Love that I am just a smaller version of normal!
13.  Recovery was a breeze from surgery.
14.  They found a hiatal hernia that I didn't know that I had and fixed it.  First time in years and years and years I have not deallt with horrible reflux.  This alone was worth the surgery!

Bad:
1.  I have a hard time dealing with weight loss comments, don't want to share at work I had surgery done, and it is going to be unavoidable at some point.
2.  I have cancer.  If I don't share about the surgery at some point coworkeers are going to think I am terminally ill.  Crappy position to be in- my privacy versus not making coworkers be upset/concerned about my health.
3.  Head hunger sucks.
4.  I battle every day at the moment making good food choices.  Actually what I eat is pretty darn good, just too much on occasion still.  More work to do in this department- the sleeve does not fix this issue.
5.  I can eat more than what I should be able to at this point- thinking my sleeve is on the bigger side or perhaps the way I am built just allows more food.  Chat with your doctor about sleeve size and technique.
6.  Had issues with low blood sugar the first few weeks out- disconcerting to say the least.
7.  Have to always think about getting liquids in.
8.  Weight loss products are expensive, new clothes are expensive.  Budget!
9.  Dreading the future loose skin and potential for plastic surgery.  Don't get me wrong- as a skin cancer patient I would love to get rid of as much skin as possible, but pretty sick of going to the doctors at the moment.
10.  Remembering to take all of the vitamin supplements.  Gotta do it, the morning round is no problem, but I forget at night a couple times a week.
11.  Potential of hair loss- hasn't happened yet thank goodness.
12.  Surgery risks- I am good, but prior to surgery felt like it was a crap shoot!
13.  Constipation. Remedied by colace and miralax, but I want to take less meds not more!

I hear you on the don't eat bread, or at least not very much component.  The stuff that I made is very high in protein- 12 grams for about 100 calories.  Once in a while I don't think it will be too terrible.  The two loaves I have are sliced and frozen and I have a feeling that is going to last me a good while.

Dang, I just donated a ton of size 28.  I am very nearly out of my 26s- perhaps as soon as this week.  PM me at the end of the week if you are interested- you can have them.  It would be all slacks- maybe 10 pair or so and some jeans.  They are all tall length.

 Hey Moon,

Sorry to read you have principal drama.  It always amazes me how the principal sets the climate, and if you have a bad one then it is bad for all stakeholders.  Take heart that she is retiring in May.  In my neck of the woods it is unlikely that an in-house teacher would be promoted to principal so hopefully the evill bff will not get the position.  Teaching is such an emotional job, and it is so much harder with negativity and suspicion swirling around.  Hang in there!

Today I tried making low carb high protein bread.  It is edible, but not terribly pleasing.  Next I am going to try the low carb bread by Bobs Red Mill Low Carb mix.  I should have tried this first, as the reviews are not to bad.  If you use a bread machine the reviews are saying it rises and pops the lid.  I think I am going to try to divide it in 2 loaves so that is slices smaller slices.  Here is a link from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EDM70Y/ref=rcxsubs_than kyou_product

Not a good day- baking and grilling all day by various family members.  In the house

brownies
fried chicken drummettes
grilled drumsticks
high protein low carb bread (put in the freezer now)
skinny cow cookies and cream bars
veggie trays
kashi cereal go lean crunch
meatball subs

I didn't eat a lot of any one thing, but way too much overall.  Junk food will be banned from the house as of first thing in the morning- once they go to school in the tra**** goes.

It's crazy how I can feel like crap on under 1000 calories.  I so need to be able to exercise again!

Agreed with Mike B- my post probably was not clear enough on that point.  You need a test to offically determine if apnea persists and to have your prescription changed for the cpap if necessary.

Topic: RE: How to show 'scale' ticker?
 Go to

My Oh
Healthtracker (enter your weight in the top box)

If you have not created a ticker yet, then...
Ticker tab (on the healthtracker screen toward the top)
Be sure to read each line- one line toward the right  has to be checked in order to show the ticke in your signature and profile.

Then if desired edit your ticker.  This is how we write messages in it, or show surgery weight and current weight and month by month losses, etc.

Healthracker
Settings (left side of the screen)
Message boards ( a tab toward the top)
You can type in the box that says signature.
Hit save when done.

That should do it :)

I like the oat bran idea-
Do you think flax seeds would work?  I always have those around, but not usually oat bran.  I also now have wheat germ in the house- dunno.

All of you have given some great ideas.  For now I have 60 meatballs made so I am good for a bit,  but next batch I am going to play more and drop the molasses.  The splanda brown suger suggestion was a great idea instead of molasses by the way- my daughter loved it in the meatball sub last night so I could see her wantimg me to not deviate too much.

Topic: RE: The Pantyhose Chronicles
You know I never even thought about pantyhose until your post.  How incredible of a NSV!!

Panyhose are the devil.  Ladies, imagine being 330 pounds, but also 6'1 and pushing 6'2- and ALL of my height is from my legs.  Last year I had this huge award ceremony that I was being honored at (very cool) and it was a semi formal event.  I am from Michigan, this was California.  I packed pantyhose that I though would work and they didn;t.  I was panicked.  My husband ended up sprinting around the Sanat Monica area looking for fat girl stores and he brought back one pair of everything the sales folks said might work.  Ended up having one pair that I could at least get up, but a several inch gap in the crotch area because they were not nearly long enough.  Talk about uncomfortable.  It is probably the single most awful memory of being so fat and it led to the surgery process.  Jeez, I could puke just thinking about this.  But, now nearly 60 pounds down I think that if I had to the fat sizes would work better as material would now be used in length more rather than going around me.

But no plans anytime soon going near devil pantyhose!

By the way, my husband is an absolute saint.  I teased him about all of these places just assuming he was a transvestite!

Topic: RE: How quickly can sleep apnea go away???
 Hello,

Before I was a teacher I spend well over a decade working in a sleep lab.  Yes, it is possible.  For some patients even losing 15-20 pounds made a noticable difference in the apnea index.  Did you happen to lose the weight in the jaw/neck area?  Eventually you will need to go back into the lab for a study to determine if the pressure should be adjusted or even that you no longer need the cpap at all.

My husband decided to lose weight right along side me in this process.  His snoring, at the beginning, was so bad I had trouble sleeping at night.  He clearly had apnea as well, although the stubborn mule (who also worked in a sleep lab for a long time) refused to go in.  He has lost about 30 pounds or so and he doesn't even snore a bit anymore.  He also no longer needs his daily naps, and he hasn't even noticed this!

Kashi Go Lean cereal- original version has 13 grams of protein- with the protein from the milk it is not too bad of a start.  I think the carbs were 26 grams, not sure on the net carbs.  The other versions of Kashi are a lot less protein so note that when looking.

Topic: RE: Got my date... A bit nervous...
Hang in there- be a little nervous or anxious is very normal.  Spend all of that nervous energy on preparing for the surgery.  Stock your pantry with post surgery needs, clean the house, exercise, etc. .I also agree that being intubated ended up being no big deal- didn't even know that I was.  On the morning of surgery they had a few questions, a chat with the anesthesiologis and surgeon, they took my weight, temp, blood pressure- pretty normal stuff.  Started an I.V.- the hubby was back that whole time.  Once they gave me the stuff to begin to knock me out (but not completely at first) the hubby was sent away, and  I was wheeled away.  The crazy part is that the initial stuff to knock me out was light so that I could help get myself onto the surgery table- but I have zero recollection of that.  When I woke up from surgery it seemed like they had just knocked me out.  Recovery went very well too, which is the case for many many of us.

Topic: RE: Changing weight on profile- help!
As mentioned in the above post... take the time to read all of the options.

Then you also need to enter your weight

Health tracker is the place for that.  Once you click on health tracker it is the first box where you can enter info at.

If you want to add something to your ticker like current weight, sw, monthly loss then...
health tracker
settings (on the left side of the screen)
Message board (a tab toward the top of the screen)
Then click where you see the ticker and you can place the cursor.  Place the cursor above or below the ticker box.

Check toward the bottom to see if you have to click save changes or something like that- I don't recall if it is automatic or not.
