Topic: RE: Speed or slow and steady?

Your plan will be just that your "plan"... Things change once your post op, honeymoon period, and maintenance.

I followed plan to the T, first two months I was barely making 350-500 calories, I made goal by 6 months...

My energy level took a dive for quite a long time.  I still haven't tested myself too much becuase I'm nervous.  But food intake I physically can't eat more than 2 oz protien and a half cup veggies at one sitting.  With that, I cannot meet a 1000+ goal without eating carbs.  Some on here so no to low carbs, I did eat fruit and still do.

Now that I've rambled, you can have the best laid plan in the world, but really you will have to deviate from it as time goes on!

Good luck

Topic: RE: Gastritis????

My path report from the part of my stomach they removed showed severe chronic gastritis from possible Hpylori.  So I took the antibiotics and I'm good.

When you say you feel the gastritis from time to time what does that mean?

Ya and "eat more fiber".... Really, come on now! I swell up like a balloon when I get too much fiber! lol

It was so bad that 4 weeks ago my PCM was ignoring gall stone attacks and saying it must be my IBS.  Really lady,  I've dealt with it my entire life, this pain is pain!

Had my gall bladder out a week later...

I hate gastro problems!!!

Hey Lady,

It's been awhile since I posted.  But I've had the same issue my entire life and so do my lil boys, 4 and 7... Miralax helps them, me not so much.

I do take 1 cap in the morning and 1 cap at night, but thats after I've had to flush my system.  And crazy enough I can still not go for 4 or 5 days!

I went to gastro through out the years, I've had a transit study, upper and lower gi, colonoscopy, barium enema (yukky)...  They just come back with IBS!

My PCM said if I stopped eating I wouldn't have the problem, jokingly of course, well I don't eat a whole lot and it hasnt changed!

I wish you luck in your journey!!!

Topic: RE: Gallbladder removed? How does it change your behaviors/life?
So I had my gallbladder out on 28AUG.

I had 3 attacks prior with 2 visits to the ER.  There are many reasons they would schedule an emergent removal they told me if  a stone is stuck causing an infection or inflammation of my gall bladder, pancreas, or liver.

But all I had was sludge and small stones, needless to say, I saw my surgeon Monday 27AUG and was scheduled to have it removed the next day.

I have no food alterations, I've had IBS my entire life, that didn't change:(....

The gas pain in my chest was with worse with this surgery than the VSG, but in saying that, I was inpatient with the VSG on morphine! lol

Good luck, no worries, you will do great!

Topic: RE: Do you at vegetables?
I eat veggies daily!  I also eat fruit.  I get in my protein, but make sure to leave room for my veggies!

Topic: RE: H pylori question
Thanks Carmelita, I will pick some probiotics, I know my NUT recommended them in the beginning.  I just haven't been able to swallow big pills/caps until recently.

No does the pepto cause constipation while on the antibiotics?  I have severe constipation while not on the meds so I want to make sure I don't make it worse.  Always have to have that even balance.  Until yesterday I had to take two caps mirilax daily to go.

So recap; Probiotics (multi strain), Fiber, and Pepto (I have chewables so I will try those tonight), and gatorage.

I'm at goal so I really don't want to get down too much farther!

Yes, a big metal taste, naseau and diarhea... I've lost 3 lbs since yesterday morning.

I'm going to get some gaterade to make sure I don't get dehydrated... I will get some mints, thanks for the tip!

Has anyone received treatment post op for H pylori here?  I am and the antibiotics are pretty bad, just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to handle the tummy aches after.

Thanks!

Topic: RE: TMI: Stupid Constipation
As others mentioned miralax will work but its not immediate relief.  I have to take 2 caps a day to go, pre op though I had to take 1/2-1 cap daily so I've the issues for years.

One thing they've always told me is that once you become regular do not stop taking the mirilax, slowly taper down.

Once you've detoxed the narcotics out it may get better, but I haven't been on narcs since day 1 post op at home and its been an issue since!

Good luck, don't wait too long to go, you can get impacted.

Topic: RE: Retried beans...carbs, protein fiber questions...
I love beans!  Black beans, kidney beans, all beans!  During the mushy or pureed stage you shouldn't worry too much about carbs, as longs its not refined stuff.

I blended chili up during my pureed, it was so good!  Added some cheese...

Your portion size is right, 2-3 ounces, but that may even be a bit much.  1/4 cup was what I used during this stage.  I didn't have to eat as often as you so I can understand why you are having a hard time getting everything in.

I don't count carbs now because I don't eat anything refined.  It's either dense protein, dairy, or fruits/veggies.  When your eating that ans sticking to 500-800 cals, theres no room for anything else.

At your stage calories will start to come into play.  Sounds like you know your plan and working it well.  Don't over complicate it, stick to the basics, protien and calories for now.

Good luck

Topic: RE: Plastic Surgery = No Exerise
I'm surprised they are doing it so early out.

To be honest, I haven't worked out but maybe 10 times since surgery and have had great weight loss.  I know the mental part is torture.

I personally wouldn't do it until I was at goal for at least a year, thats actually the guidelines with my surgeons.  But then again, my boobs reduced without too much hang:)  I went from a 40 DD to a 36C in 5 months, and even that small I still have to wear two sports bras.

Oh honey, the emotions are going to be horrible the next few days.  Your hormones are out of whack, got the break up going on, and being by yourself is the combination that totally broke me down the first two weeks.

Can someone come visit?  I had my granny come back after one day of her being gone.  If not, maybe call someone?  I started watching on demand instead of regular tv.

Are you getting sleep?  That can cause the emotions to go out whack as well.

Food wise, I found the garlic cream of chicken was the best, campbells I believe.  I add unflavored whey protein to it from GNC and it wasn't bad at all.

Topic: RE: How do you slow down?
I agree with moonglo, it will get easier, but for me it was more like the first 2 months were, umm, crappy! lol

I was a huge water drinker prior and right after it tasted like crap!  I really had to mentally make myself and had to have it room temp... Now it tastes like water:)

Just don't get down on yourself just yet.  Maybe add a touch of mio or isopure (a touch meaning a teaspoon) to give it some flavor!  I also tried diluted gatorade, just to make sure my electrolytes were good.  Defiantely don't want you to get dehydrated.

Like others I only put one ounce into my cup at a time.  This also made me get my walking in, every 15 minutes I was getting up to get another drink.

I hate sipping with a passion, it will pass soon:)  The burp thing though, I burp all day long and I'm 5 months out!

Topic: RE: My dinner (pic)
Great, I was a rice, bread, pasta person.  So I haven't had any of it until this weekend, had two bites of macaroni salad.  But my hubby makes fabulous fried rice and eventually would like to have a few bites, he makes it once every 4-6 months or so.

Haven't been able to tolerate sushi preop, so not sure if I can do it postop.  The seaweed gets me and the texture of the fish.

Topic: RE: Keep it a secret?
I told family, friends, and a few coworkers I see daily.  Other than that, when people comment on how I look like I did ten years ago, or how skinny I am, or how'd I'd do it.  If I don't feel like telling them I politely say "I changed my life dramatically and I am so happy now, thanks for noticing".  I don't need to tell everyone, just like having a hysterectomy, I didn't run around yelling "Hey I had my uterus taken out, woohoo". Lol

Also, I have two lil boys, I chose to do my surgery while my husband was deployed.  I knew it would be easier for me to set my habits into place while he was gone.  Example candy, none is in the house and he has agreed to not bring home cakes, anything thats a trigger until I hit goal.  Well I've hit goal while he's gone, so no worries.

I sent my boys to my folks for two weeks.  I was too weak to take care of them.  My Granny came and stayed with me.

I had surgery on Friday and was released Sunday.

I had mine done at Madigan.  There is no time line within the military treatment facilites, there are certain goals that have to be met sucha s meeting with the case manager, nutrition, occupational therapy, psych (if needed), GI (if needed), support group.  I started the process in October and was sleeved in February.  What part of the country are you in?

I also work for Tricare, not the contractor, but on the government side.  If your going through the civilian sector your time frames will differ based on your access to care.  Inside the MTF its much different.

Good luck in your journey!

Topic: RE: 16 pounds in week one post op!!!
I went crazy insane the first month and one of  the reasons was my energy, I'm an on the go kind of person, 100%.  To be honest though, it really was until about the end of month 2 that I wasn't drop dead draggin!  I would definately remind yourself one day at a time!  Major major surgery...

I bought the v8 light and never drank it:)  I think its still in the fridge.  Pudding can be on liquids if you make it a soupd consitancy, it helped me meet my proetin goals.  You can also add it to your soup, I got a unflavored version from GNC, not bad.  Added it to my crema of potato and cream of chicken.  You have to add it first to a little soup that is luke warm, then add it to the hot stuff, then it won't clump.  Once your able to meet your protein goals your energy will pick up!

When we say WLS isn't the easy way out, we mean it!  Don't ever let anyone make you feel that way.  This is a hard journey that will have its ups and downs.  I have them daily, but am determined to succeed daily!

Take thenegative and turn it into a positive, a learning experience, and enjoy all the outcomes!

Congrats!  Once you get on full liquids and then the soft solids your energy level will pick up if thats an issue now.  I had to avoid the tomato based soups and V8 juices, too acidic.  Popsicles were a blessing and pudding.  You can put some protein powder in your pudding and don't even know its there!

Good luck, just remember if you get the urge to eat off plan, think first "Could this possibly hurt my new tummy", if the answer is "No" then the second is "what am I getting out of this if I eat it?"  I never got past the first question because I understood my tummy was so fragile and a leak was my biggest fear.  Also, nuts and seeds, whether ground or nut, can get stuck in your stomach line that can cause an infection.  Those issues really kept me on track.

Not sure if you've seen it or not, but theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com is a fabulous website.  You have to search back, but she has a lot of recipes and tips for newbies!

Good luck
