Topic: RE: One more thing off the bucket list! Half marathon COMPLETE!

So this past weekend I ran my first ever Half Marathon (2:29:40), it was hard, emotional and life changing. Who knew that running could lay your soul bare before you and let you see who you really are, but that is what this did for me. It showed me the strength of character, will and body that I have developed over the past two years, and for the first time in my life I can say that I am truly proud of the person that I have become.

I still struggle with my new body, my new life and all the stuff that comes with extreme weight loss, but with each thing I check off the list I find myself loving it all that much more.

Life as a skinny, sexy athlete is pretty effing amazing. Onward and upward, first Tri in July!

HA HA, smothering an athlete, that made me crack up!

I have been doing some cycling too, but not as much as I should. I will be doing an Olympic lengt Tri in July, so I need to get my ass on the bike and be better about it :)

I struggled so hard with the 11 min mile, seriously like for months I would JUST get to like a 10:50 and then that was it, then one day I noticed I was getting a little faster, then a little more and now I'm down to an easy 9:30, can get a 9:20 if I am in top form! did my last 5k race in 30:14!

HUGS back, I have missed you guys.

PS - I'm going to be in Cali in October with the SSB for the OH conference! We should see what we can do about a meet up!

Topic: RE: *waves* Been a while....

So it's been a while since I checked in, figured I would give a quick update.

I am almost 21 months out, I have been in maintenance since about six months out. I am currently hanging about 3 lbs out of my normal range, but I am attributing it to my high intensity workouts and crazy training at the moment.

My race schedule is crazy, I did my first 5k of the season the first weekend in April and beat my best race time by almost 6 mins< the weekend after that I completed my first every Spartan Sprint and it was literally the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I trained hard for it and it was still difficult, but so very, very rewarding.

I had this weekend off but did a 10 mile training run just for fun (yeah, I said it, for fun LOL). This coming weekend I have another 5k and the weekend after that I have my first ever half marathon (After what happened in Boston I decided to throw it out on Facebook and challenged someone to sponsor me and I would do it, my amazing surgeon jumped on it and so now I am running it! LOL Be careful what you ask for!).

So still loving life with my sleeve, best decision I have ever made for myself.

Yes, it IS that shirt! LOL but it's a size large and is HUGE on me now so I only wear it to bed, I tried to get it in a small but Target doesn't have it anymore!

Thanks on the avatar, a friend has talked me into keeping my hair longer and I have to admit I am loving the look with it all blown out and straight! Add the big Jersey girl earrings and I am good to go! LOL

And you ARE skinny, but I know how awesome it is to hear it coming out of other peoples mouths!

So the people who own the house across the street from ours rent it, the new tenant had just moved in and locked himself out, it was like 10:30 at night but he saw that all our lights where on so rang the doorbell to see if he could use the phone. I answered the door, hair in a ponytail on the top of my head, no make-up, wearing yoga pants and a Yoda t-shirt (yeah, I'm a hot nerd, so what? LOL), and he says........

WAIT FOR IT........

"IS YOUR MOM HOME?" I wanted to kiss him on the mouth right then and there! LOL

You are not alone, I was off the rails, gained about 7 lbs, pulled my **** together and got back down to my lowest weight. If I can do it, anyone can LOL I was a hot.mess after the holidays, and for the past two days I have had popcorn for dinner (yeah, not proud, but it is what it is). We all slip, what you do after the slip is what makes the difference!

I love my sleeve, and I am 100% happy with the fact that I did not go for the bypass! I am down 170 lbs total, from a size 30/6x to a 4/6 or xs/s.

Topic: RE: 5k

I would recommend the same for you! Make sure you are wearing the proper footwear for your walk/run pattern, it makes all.the.diffrence. in the world! Like for me, I have to wear a stability shoe for both walking and running b/c I have a slight outward turn to my ankle that needs the extra support, if I don't have it I hurt from head to toe at the end of a walk/run.

Topic: RE: 5k

If your knees are bothering you, you might want to go get your shoes checked! Find a running/fitness store in your area that does run evaluations, they will put you on a treadmill and watch you walk so they can see your footfalls and patterns and then recommend the right kind of shoe for you to wear! It made all the difference for me, I went from having sore knees/hips/back after running to no pain at all just with the switch of a shoe!

LOL I know, it's crazy, and they make you give them a credit card and if you don't raise all the money you need to get in they charge your ******g card! I am so lazy about raising money for stuff, I would end up paying the $2200 out of my own pocket just to run myself into the ground.

HAHA, right now it's just a dream! I would never qualify for it so I have to raise a ton of money to get in, and I SUCK at doing that. SO I am going to do the half first and see how I feel, and if I don't die doing the Tri in July I am going to kick off the fundraising for the marathon in 2014! I would LOVE for you to come do it with me!

Topic: RE: 5k

I do them all the time, in fact my husband just threatened that he was going to find a 12 step program for me b/c my race fees are getting out of hand LOL I did my first one over a year ago, took me almost 50 mins to complete, I now run them in under 30. I agree with Alison, find one that is an annual thing so you can watch your time drop from year to year, its great motivation.

I went on from a 5k, to a 10k and I am now working on training for my first Half Marathon with the hopes of running the NYC Marathon in 2014!

Topic: RE: Planet Fitness

My biggest worry with a gym like this is that SO many people use the machines wrong and often times there is no one around to correct you or show you the proper way, this often leads to burn out, working to failure and injury. If you can get someone who knows what they are doing to show you how to use each piece properly and carefully, then I say go for it, but otherwise I would go somewhere they have staff that will show you how to weight train in the proper form.
