Topic: RE: Newbie here! band vs sleeve

Wow, that's all just wrong. I am almost 4 years out and don't look like I just had surgery when I eat. I always have food left over, but it's nothing that makes anyone think twice. They just think I wasn't all that hungry. Yes, when I first had surgery I would get asked "is everything ok" or typical questions like that, but it evens out. I feel completely normal. Also, as said above, very few can lose around 100 lbs (or even over 50) or more and keep it off for life. I lost 50 lbs twice in my life with diet and exercise, but it always came back slowly fairly soon after getting there. I never lost as much as I wanted to lose. I'm sure you will start feeling normal pretty soon. It's awesome that you are exercising, because that will just help you be even healthier.

Before surgery, I felt the fattest at the new year. I didn't join the gym then, but that's when I wanted to lose weight the most. It wasn't because it was a resolution or new year, it was because I had just come off Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years eating and drinking junk for over a month straight. lol

It will be 4 years this May that I got sleeved. I still love everything about my sleeve. I feel completely normal. I feel like a small normal person, that doesn't really eat a lot. I haven't had any problems maintaining my weight.

Topic: RE: Anyone else always getting the HICCUPS???

hmmm, mine never went away and I'm almost 4 years out. It doesn't matter how little or much I eat, or how slow or fast I eat. No matter what, after eating a few bites, I will have the hiccups about 5 to 10 minutes later. I've just gotten used to it. My husband jokes with me and will say "I guess you're full".

Topic: RE: Think I need to update my driver's license picture?

Yep, time for you to update. lol
My license was up for renewal at exactly a year after my surgery. I had gotten way lower than I expected or wanted, and worked for 6 months to try to gain a little weight. Anyway, I look at it now and think I look like a crack addict. Of course, I prefer my crack picture, over my obese picture. I was so excited to get to renew it.

Topic: RE: No Weight Loss!

Hi, I'm almost 4 years out, but I think I can remember that far. lol
Yes, it's normal. A week wihtout weight loss isn't a big deal. Your body is getting used to the change in diet. This usually starts because your body got used to liquids, and usually people have started soft foods, and sometimes even regular foods. Your body just needs to pause a minute and try to figure out what you have done to it. lol

I thought I felt good before surgery, but it doesn't compare to how I feel now that I'm at a normal BMI.

Topic: RE: Frustrated...

I agree with everything said above. I think everyone hits at least one stall (or most people do). If I were you, I would try to add one more protein shake a day for a week or so. You might need to up your calories some because of all the working out. Your body might think it's starving and is holding on to everything. No matter what, it will move again. Don't get discouraged. I know it's hard. For me, I knew it was expected and normal, so I didn't freak out when it happened. I didn't like it one bit, because i loved seeing the scale go down. You're doing great, and it sounds like you're doing everything right. Keep it up, but maybe add some calories to your diet for about a week, just to change things up.

Topic: 3 years ago yesterday

Wow, I can't believe it's been 3 years since I had my VSG. It's amazing how the day went without me even thinking about it till this morning. I guess I am really living my life. I still love my VSG! It is possible to gain with it. I know for me, my metabolism is all kinds of jacked up. If I were to eat what a normal person eats to maintain, I would gain big time. I still don't eat all that much. I weigh every day, and when I notice some lbs sneaking on, I will diet again. My tastes changed after surgery, and they are still pretty much the same as they were right after surgery. Things i loved before surgery, that I no longer liked after surgery, I still don't care for now. That was a great thing, because I really don't like things like hamburgers anymore. I don't really like much at fast food places at all. I seem to lose weight on vacations because we hit the fast food places more, and I only eat a few bites and I'm done. I actually love working out now. I never thought I would be one that likes it, and I just recently got to this point. I do a step and pump aerobics class and I look forward to those classes every week.
My dream weight was to get to 130 lbs. I got down to 117 and was constantly told how bad I looked (people will still tell me "you really looked bad then". I worked really hard (it took almost a year) to get up to 125 to 130. This morning I was 132. I fluctuate between 130 to 135. If I get to 135 I panic and go into diet mode. I think I am at the perfect weight for me now, and I'm so much more confident that I have ever been. People tell me I smile more, and just seem happier, and friendlier. I guess I didn't look as friendly back then. Probably because I was so miserable.
Anyway, I just wanted to pop over and say hello to everyone. I haven't posted in a long time. Every so often I will read the forums, but I just don't get over here much.

My biggest obstacle is my husband. I love him dearly, but he seems to think that he has to buy me chocolates on any holiday or celebration. He got me 2 lbs of mixed chocolates on my birthday (May 5th). I told him, I would physically hurt him if he did that for mothers day. I bet it crossed his mind. I told him he just wants me to be fat. I know he doesn't but he just seems to think about foods being a celebration. He isn't obese, but he has gained some weight now that he's getting older. He loves going out to eat. He says I'm "no fun" because I don't want to go to buffet type of places because I know I wont eat my money's worth, and I just usually feel miserable because I want to try a little of everything. So, he's my biggest obstacle, but I'm still working on him. lol

Topic: RE: Is this normal for those far out

I have been feeling exactly the same way the past few months. I am 2 yrs and 8 months post op, and used to feel tiny, even at the same weight, but lately I just feel fat, and I know I'm not. I have started working out again, and hopefully that will make me feel toned up and better, if not, I might look into talking to someone.

I'm not sure who all is around, but I know there's quite a few of us at 2.5 yrs out. I'm 2 yrs and 8 months out, and love every minute of it. I know when I was here there were some who were a year or 2 out, but us long timers don't really check in all that much.

Topic: RE: Starting to get the "is she anorexic" stares..

I wrote the same post about a year ago (or more). My original "goal" weight was to be 140 lbs, which put me just barely in the "normal" weight range. I then set my goal to a dream weight of 130 lbs. I hit that and kept going. I got to 117 lbs, and felt like that was way too much for me. I finally stopped losing, and stayed at 117 for a while even though I tried to bring it up. It did slowly go back up, and I ended up right at 130 lbs. Don't worry about it too much. You will probably have the normal bounce back weight. It's normal to gain back 5 to 10 lbs or so. I was right about a year out when I started worrying. It took about 6 months before I went up a little. Now, I'm at the perfect weight for me, and I love it!

Topic: RE: 6 months + and beyond -- still able to loose?

I hit my normal bmi goal at 6 months out. I then continued to lose weight till about 14 months out. I was even trying to stop the weight loss. I did finally stop the weight loss, and worked on putting a little more back on. My normal bmi goal was 140 lbs. Then I changed it to my "dream" goal of 130 lbs. I ended up at 117, but worked to get back to 130. I have now landed at around 124 to 127 lbs. I'm now almost 2 and 1/2 yrs out and am very happy!

I can't figure out the picture thing either. Here's a link.
The first picture is my before after picture. This was actually when I was at 135. I went on to lose down to 117 after that, but then ended up around 124. So, I'm also attaching a picture of me more recent (the other was take over a year ago) that was taken a couple of months ago.

Topic: RE: September 1st check-in!

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I've posted. I am now 2 yrs and 4 months out. I am loving life! My highest weight ever was 237, but had lost 50 lbs with NS before going for surgery. I was making my way back up though, and at surgery my weight was 214. I lost 97 lbs at my lowest weight (I hit 117, but worked hard to get it up some), but over 100 lbs from my highest weight. My "normal" weight goal on the bmi scale was 140 lbs. I hit that at 6 months out. I then decided on a "dream" weight. I always thought 130 lbs was a perfect weight for my height. I got there, and it just kept going. I worked to try to get it back up closer to 125, and now I fluctuate between 123 to 126. I went from wearing a size 22 pants and roomy 3x shirt to a size 6 pants and small (sometimes xs) shirt.
I do watch what I eat, but I don't deprive myself. I find that I really like the foods that are better for me, and I do not like the fried or full of fat foods much so that's a good thing. I have a plan that if I hit 130, I will go back to "dieting" for a bit, and bring it back down. I get on the scale everyday, sometimes twice a day still. I do not want to get on one day and see I gained 10 lbs out of no where, so I keep a close eye on it, just in case. I haven't had any problems yet, but you all know how the fat person is still in our head some.

I am a leader of a support group and co-lead another one. I really think support groups are important to everyone, even those who are further out.

Topic: RE: Stapling

Stapling is what they called the old procedure they used to do. They would just staple the stomach to make it smaller. The problems was, it left both sides of the stomach, which would fight against the staples to try to put itself back together, and eventually the stomach would break through the staples and become a whole stomach again. It didn't work, and it isn't done anymore. If it's done, run away from that doctor who would do it.

Topic: RE: second thoughts

Only you can make the decision, but for me, this was the best thing I have done for myself. Have you tried other diets? If so, didn't the weight always come back? I had tried many diets, and even though I had lost 50 lbs twice in my life, I gained it back. I knew I wasn't going to keep off the weight forever, without medical help.

Yeah, I don't take this seriously at all. I wasn't even able to swallow at 3 days post op (had to stay in hospital because I was too swollen). Even for a normal person though, they are so swollen, this is not a good example at all.
