Topic: RE: HELP should I reverse the Lapband To VSG

I revised a little over a year ago.  I have no regrets!  The sleeve is everything we were told the band would be.  Which means, you also have to do MOST of the work.  You really have to watch what you eat in order to lose weight.  Good luck!

Hi Tonna.  I didn't have a leak with my revision.  Hoping that some others might chime in.  Just sending hugs your way.

Topic: RE: Anyone Eating Paleo or Primal????

I am doing Primal.  I just didn't want to give up my cream with my coffee and having cheese as a snack.  LOL  I was out of town all last week for my grandfather's funeral and at the mercy of relatives I stayed with.  Needless to say, I wasn't eating Primal and OMG, I feel the difference.  I gained 7 pounds in ONE WEEK!!  I know a lot of it is water weight, but sheesh......I am back to my Primal and intermittent fasting today.  Hoping those extra pounds come off just as quickly, so I can get back to logging lower  numbers on my scale!

Topic: RE: BMI is a damn liar!

Yes, if I were to get down to a lower to mid range "normal" BMI for my height, I would look like a skeleton.  I will be happy to "overweight" by BMI standards as long as I am FIT and muscular!

Great pics!!  Everyone is very inspirational!

Here is me, before LapBand, after almost 2 years, LapBand, another pic that shows some regain during complications..........then me today with my VSG, less than 20 pounds away from my "after LapBand"

(I am a bit smaller today, but don't have a recent shot of my body, just face....

I am getting to where I need to be slowly.  I definitely love my sleeve!

Topic: RE: Did you know that your stomach will re-grow? The doctor on the lap-band forum thinks it will.

That entire thread was horrendous!!  He also claims that he has done more sleeve to band revisions than the other way around.  WTF???  I have never heard of anyone with a sleeve revising to the band!  I know some RNY patients do, but, OMG, he is a complete idiot!

He was also saying that any problems with the band some of us have had, were self-inflicted!  Creep!

Topic: RE: For those that have struggled with your sleeve-do you wish for malabsorption??

I do believe that metabolic resistance is real.  I know that when I do everything to a "tee", my weightloss is VERY SLOW.  I have never had my metabolism tested, but I suspect it's slow.

For myself, I know that I have NOT been compliant nearly enough this last year.  Therefore, I have myself to blame, right now.

If you know for sure that your hard-fought, slow weight loss is related to your metabolism, then checking in to the DS might be just what you need to do.

You look like a completely different person, maybe a much younger niece of the before lady.

When I lost almost all of my excess weight with the LapBand, I went through a divorce, for the same reasons.  It was traumatic and scary, but really, a very good decision.  Hope you stay happy and healthy!!

Topic: RE: Losin' the regain (still losin'), what foods are workin' for me, & what I've learned ...

Jenn,

You are so brave to battle this out and put it out for everyone to learn from and emulate.  Seriously.

When I had my band slip fixed (2 years out), I started to gain weight.  I didn't panic at first.  I didn't do anything to get myself back in line.  But when my 10's would no longer fit ,and my 12's were getting too uncomfortable to wear, I started getting upset.  However, I had a ton of stuff going on in my life, at the time, and didn't devote the energy and discipline it took to lose the regain.  Before I knew it, 50 of my 105 pounds loss was back!

Fast forward a couple of years, I had a revision to the sleeve.  I had already lost about 15 of the regain but, was hoping the sleeve would help me sail back to where I wanted to be.  Ha.  No, another 20 gone after surgery came off, but my eating wasn't what it should have been, so I stalled out.

I am back on track with you, girl...... it's painful to pick yourself up and lose again, but we are doing it!  I hope that we really remember these lessons.  It's a life long battle.  No getting around it.

Topic: RE: Anyone have to wait a year from LB Removal to Sleeve? Getting NERVOUS

I had my revision a year ago, and my LapBand was taken out and my sleeve given to me during the same surgery.  I didn't have any complications whatsoever.  My best friend had hers done 2 weeks later and had a rough time of it for a few days.  There was more damage to her esophagus than mine, from the band.  She wasn't able to keep anything down, so the surgeon put her on meds and kept her a couple of extra days.  She was fine after that, and has had a normal time with her sleeve.

If you have had your band out for quite awhile, I am sure you will be fine.  Good luck and keep us posted!

Topic: RE: Have to call the surgeon's office

Sorry to hear that you are having some issues with keeping foods down.  That reminds me of my days with the LapBand.  No fun.  Hopefully, it's nothing serious.

As far as the NUT, mine is pretty much the same.  She does not want me going below 800 calories for any reason.  I talked to my surgeon about it and explained that my metabolism is so dang slow, if I don't shock it with really low calories I don't seem to lose weight.  He agreed to condone that as long as I drank a protein shake to keep my protein up.

Topic: RE: Results of Last Weeks' Experiment

Yes, of course.  I got the idea from my son.  He just turned 21, and he is a male, so his metabolism is MUCH better than mine, but he started doing this type of IF last summer and really dropped some weight.  He didn't need to lose that much, but he ended up losing about 25 pounds.

I will keep you posted on my progress!

Topic: RE: Gastric Sleeve Surgery in 2 Weeks

Awesome news! Congrats!

The bad news?  You will still MOST LIKELY need to follow a low-carb diet once you are sleeved.  For MOST of us, that is the only way to lose weight.  The sleeve helps us to keep our portions down and to not be so hungry, but it's only a tool.  What we put in our mouth is important and totally up to us.

Topic: RE: Results of Last Weeks' Experiment

This is my second week of doing intermittent fasting.  I am doing the eating window of 3pm-9pm.  I am still trying to tweak it and do what works for me, but so far, I love it.  I have dropped about 5 pounds, and for someone that  has been stalled (my fault) for months, I was happy to see that!  It isn't nearly has hard as I thought it would be!  I also give myself a cheat day on the weekends to help keep things shook up.

Topic: RE: Scheduled for band to sleeve

I had my revision just over a year ago, and my surgeon did it all in one shot, as well.  I love my sleeve, it's everything that the band was supposed to be.  I had maintained a lot of what I lost with the band, but did end up gaining about 40 back by the time the revision was done.  I have only lost half of that this past year.  It's not my sleeve's fault, it's mine.  Please remember that the sleeve, like the band, is only a tool.  This is going to take hard work on your part!  Good luck!!

Topic: RE: Protein Coffee vs eggs for breakfast -- why is the coffee more satisfying?

I agree with what others have said.  If it isn't broke, why fix it?  My surgeon wants me to ALWAYS have a protein shake in the morning, or for one meal, at least.  I know not all surgeons feel that way, but I am just putting it out there, so you know it isn't totally off the mark to drink your protein.

Topic: RE: Hood Calorie Countdown 2% Lowfat Milk

Did you get the chocolate?  It's SOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!  I switched to unsweetened almond milk to save a few calories, awhile back.  Mixing half water isn't a bad idea!   I have used their "regular" white milk to make cream soups, which saved a TON of calories and tasted just as good!
