I was on the 24th too!!  Sounds like you had a great experience which is awesome!  It's getting better every day.  Vitamins, protein, water, walking.  All my favorite things!!

Congrats!!

Topic: RE: I'm Home!
Awesome!!  It does get easier.  I'm 3 days out from surgery and am feeling better.  sorry to hear about the nausea and pain.  It will get better.  Just keep walking and drinking!!

Topic: RE: I'm sleeved!!!
Thanks everyone!  I've been trying to concentrate on more liquids than protein to avoid dehydration and yes the popcicles are my friend as well.  I've walked a little twice during the work day today so I think that's pretty good but still think I have some gas.  I HATE THAT STUFF!!!

When I drink and I have pain does that mean I'm drinking too much to fast?  I thought I was sipping but I have pain sometimes.  I tried sipping smaller amounts and it was better.

I know it will get better, it's just a matter of me being patient.  I'm not even hungry AT ALL which is weird.

Thanks everybody.

Happy, and trying to get my protein in but am having a hard time.  I'm documenting everything but i'm having to make myself drink everything.  Did everyone else have this issue?

I'm also tired so I'm taking naps too so that's interfering with my drinking too.  Help?

Topic: RE: Question about the day before please
Oh yes, I ordered those online.  I have some unjury protein powder.  I actually ordered my calcium from unjury as well and got my multi-vitamin off of amazon.

Hey Sunflower!

Here's what I got today.

Protein drinks (low sugar), of course:  EAS and Boost.  Lowe's has double coupons and I had a $1 coupon for the Boost.

Soups: creamy tomato, potato and leek, broths.  Anything that didn't have chunks that looked good, low sugar, some protein and that I could still strain just to make sure.

I was told no jello for the first 3 weeks.  I believe sugar free applesauce is ok though (check just to make sure).

Crystal Light: a couple of different flavors
Propel water in a couple of flavors.

I'm not a big buyer of cases of water because I like to reuse the water bottles

Going after work to get the Magnesium citrate probably check Walgreens first since they seem to have everything.

Ok.  Thanks for your help.  I'll keep looking.  I was in the grocery stores so maybe that was the problem.

Thanks!!!

Topic: RE: Question about the day before please
Ok.  So I went shopping at lunch today and got some stuff for after surgery.  I was going to get the laxitive I'm supposed to drink and I thought it was magnesium citrate but I couldn't find that!  Can I just drink the Phillip's Milk of Magnesia?

sigh.  Thanks for your help.

Topic: RE: Why do I feel like I'm nesting???
Ok. So I'm sure everyone has heard me say one thing or another about how I'm feeling.  Sorry to go on and on about it but I've never had surgery before so this is a whole new thing for me.  I am seriously trying to get the household ready!  Cleaning, organizing, etc.  I actually feel like I'm nesting!  Feels kinda stupid really but necessary at the same time.  I'm trying to make this as easy on my roommate as possible because she's got a lot to do at home anyway (taking care of foster animals) and doesn't need one more thing to stress about.

I can't seem to get anything done at home because of other stuff coming up and it's very frustrating!!  As God as my witness (for the Gone with the Wind fans) I will get everything done Sunday and Monday.  People are just gonna have to DEAL!!

:)  Thanks.

Topic: RE: Preop visit today
I wish you both luck on Monday.  I know how you feel golfeboy.  I'm feeling some of those same things too.  My surgery is Tuesday.  I'm not debating surgery, just nervous because I've never had surgery.

Hang in there.  It'll be over before you know it.

Topic: RE: NEED SOME ENCOURAGEMENT
You can do this Michelle!  First of all, if this were me I would make an appointment with my therapist because you definitely need someone to talk to.  Also, you can certainly call your nutritionist as well.  They can help you with what you're eating.  Remember, stress can be a big contributor to weight so that may be part of the issue as well.

Sometimes a good cry helps as well.  Cry, talk to a therapist, a NUT, and your husband.  Try not to let this get to you.  I know that's easier said than done.

I wish you all the luck in the world and keep it up.  You are not alone.

Topic: RE: Do you find this offensive?
I don't find it offensive, but I do need to say that my roommate is a size 0 (down from size 16) and she eats crap all the time!!!!  It's the grazing that she does and working out that helps her too.  Portion size is a part of it too.  It's not just what someone eats.

I just find it offensive that people laugh at this picture.  What's so freakin' funny?  People.

Topic: RE: newbie question
bestofme,

I did the exact same thing!!!  I then realized that I was having surgery to lose weight and to get healthy and I'm only hurting myself by gorging on those foods.  Every chance I got there was a burger or box of mac-n-cheese in front of me.  It was insane!

Here's what I did.  I wrote a list of the reasons I was having surgery.  I came to this website and talked to others who helped me through this.  I also talked to my therapist.  THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU!!!  Just refocus yourself.  You'll be fine.

Take a walk
Drink some water (crystal light, or whatever your choice)
sugar free popscicles (my new fave)
keep busy!!

That is a pre-op's best advice.  I've taken a lot of deep breaths (no hyperventilating please ;) )

Topic: RE: Maybe a little off topic but feeding tubes???
Missy, I saw that too!!  I thought, "and here I am struggling with 150 lbs and she's worried over 15?  Really?  Let me show her what a real weight problem is."  It was extremely frustrating.  I had to turn it off.  It can't be healthy for them either.

Very bizarre.

Topic: RE: Very moved and grateful
A lot of my co-workers I went to high school with so it's sortof the same thing here.  I know once they all find out (afterwards) what surgery I had then they will be supportive.  My boss and his wife are the only ones who know right now.  I work in public safety so it will be all over the county by this afternoon if I tell one of them.  LOL

I hope I can inspire her but if not her then one person.  That will make things even better!!!

Thanks.

It's silly people struggle with that.  I wish employers realized it is in their best interest financially to cover this (in the long run).

Thank you.  :)

Welcome Darby!  Nice to meet you!

Topic: RE: Very moved and grateful
I got a note this morning from my boss' wife.  The subject line was simply "support".  Reading through it brought me to tears because she has so many health problems (diabetis, allergies to the planet, allergies to anesthesia, her weight, etc.) and she told me how much she admired me for doing this.  She said her doc had mentioned it to her before and she just veared away from the convo but she has lost A LOT of weight on her own.  She's thought about the surgery before but doesn't know if she could do it.  She and my boss are coming to visit me in the hospital.

I'm just feeling very overwhelmed with emotion and I guess I just never realized how many people truly cared about me until now.  It's so nice to know!!!!  This is just that much more motivation to stay around and get healthy.  I am one of the luckiest women in the world.

Topic: RE: WV Bans Drive-Thru Windows
hrford,

That is a very interesting point!  I know it would really 'curb' my stopping because I wouldn't actually want to get out and (god forbid) walk inside!  :)

I'm so busy that drive-thrus (not just food) are a huge help in getting things done.  I don't feel like I'd get as much done without them.

Americans are so spoiled though that we have to have our convenience and everything supersized.  I won't get on that soapbox though.  I've got to room to talk about supersizing anything.

Thanks for this post!!

Topic: RE: i got my surgery date!
Congratulations!!!  I haven't had surgery yet (4/24) but one piece of advice I have is to really do your research on things and be as prepared as you possibly can.  Nutrition can start now!  I've started trying to eat like I'm going to in maintenance (just in bigger amounts) and have already dropped weight.  WATER, WATER, WATER!!!  I'd also start in support groups.  They are so helpful because the vets in there can give you so much advice.

Good luck to you!

You have made my day!!  I have a high pain tolerance but the pain part is a little concerning to me so I'm glad to hear that you are so comfy.  lol

Thanks for posting this and enjoy your view and your new life!  Keep sharing!  My surgery is in 6 days!
