Topic: RE: guys does anyone have problems drinking water
I am 15 months out and I still have trouble drinking water.  Every sip hits my sleeve like lead!  I have no problem drinking other liquids, coffee, tea, crystal light, Sobe Life Water, etc.  Bu****er hurts every time -I don't drink water much because of that.

Yes.  I had some GI issues and my doctor didn't want me to have either the RNY or the band.  I was completely okay with that because the sleeve was what I really wanted to begin with.  I also didn't have as much weight to lose as my husband.  I've lost 75 lbs. - he lost 145.

Topic: RE: Specific Needs Calorie counting websites and/or apps
Fitbit, My Fitness Pal, Sparkpeople, etc... I'm looking for one that can do all of these things:

1) track foods by:
     a) calories
     b) protein
     c) carbs
     d) fat

2) be able to adjust goal/maximum numbers of the above items to bariatric needs, such as 600-800 calories instead of what is recommended for a person of a particular gender/weight/height/activity level.

3) can sync with website and smartphone app

Is there one that can do all these things?

 Peace!

Yes, Michele, I say that all the time -that I couldn't have given myself a better gift -the gift of love by taking care of my health -on Valentine's Day.  I haven't been going to the support groups -my husband had the RNY and so did my sister, so I sort of felt that I had "built-in" support at home.  But I probably should get back to going to them, especially now that I'm struggling with getting back on track because my weightloss has stopped.  I'm sure your stall won't last long -our bodies need to redistribute every now and then -but the weight will continue to drop.  Wishing you much luck!

It took me about a year to lose 75 lbs. -I probably could have lost more but I was dealing with other issues, such as depression, and I started using food as a crutch.  I'm trying to get back to basics and get back on track.  Sorry, I've never heard of either of the doctors you mentioned.  Good luck to you!

Topic: RE: Help - I need a wake-up call!
What a cool coincidence that we had our surgeries exactly one year apart!  How are you doing?  I'm glad you liked Dr. Barkan -my husband and I both liked him right off the bat as soon as we met him.  I hope you are doing well -I've been off this site for quite a while and it's time that I get back.  Thanks for your suggestions and your vote of confidence.  I'm starting off today with positive thoughts and hope for good changes to come.  Thanks!

Thank you both for your advice.  Yes, I'm going to have to try going back to basics -high protein, very low carbs and keeping my calories down.  It seems that over time I started slowly introducing foods (mostly carbs that I hadn't been eating) and enjoying them so much -they go down so nicely!  And I thought I was doing just fine with them, but lately I've been feeling that something just isn't right -my clothes are not fitting as well as they did at Christmas.  Time for me to buckle down and get back on track because I didn't go through bariatric surgery to gain the weight back!!!  *sigh*

Topic: RE: Help - I need a wake-up call!
I am 14 months out and lost 75 of the 100 lbs I wanted to lose.  I have fallen back into bad eating habits and I could use some guidance.  I have not lost any weight in the past 2 months or so and I'm feeling excess belly fat over the top of my jeans.  Are there guidelines for a sleever who is a year out?  Do I need to do something drastic as far as eating goes?  I appreciate any suggestions.  I thought I was doing so good and then I hit a wall.

I also had my VSG performed by Dr. Alexander Barkan.  My husband had the RNY with Dr. Barkan too.  We were both very pleased with him from the first time we met with him.   Everything Michele said above I second.  I think you would be very happy with Dr. Barkan, his staff as well as the stay in Winthrop Hospital.  Good luck whatever you decide.  BTW, Michele, I had my surgery exactly one year before you did!  : )

Topic: RE: Hot coffee/Iced coffee
Is it okay to have a couple of cups of either hot or iced coffee daily as long as it is decaf?  I've really been enjoying decaf iced coffee lately now that the weather is warmer but I don't want to do something that isn't helpful with my weightloss.

Topic: RE: Staying Strong anyone else in the same boat?? so close but stumped
The scale has not moved for me in about 3 weeks and it is soooo frustrating!  Like you I must be losing inches because clothes that fit me a month ago are hanging on me.  So I have to be grateful that something is happening and hopefully the scale will catch up with my body soon.  Good luck to you too!

Great job! You look amazing.
Topic: RE: VSG'ers ---What 'cha growing this summer ???!!
Tomatoes
Cucumbers
Bell peppers (green, red and yellow)
Zucchini
Bush beans
Strawberries
Basil
Parsley

I'm hoping to have better luck than I had last year.  It was my first time growing vegetables and I'm not exactly sure what went wrong but I was willing to give it another try.

Topic: RE: What causes slimeys?
I guess it makes sense to me that the body would naturally come to the rescue when we make a mistake like that.  God really knew what he was doing when he made us, didn't He!  Yes, when it happened I had eaten too much/too quick.....and I'm sort of feeling similarly tonight although I haven't tried bending over the toilet -yet!  LOL

Topic: RE: I had a NSV!!!
I'm 5 weeks post-op and dropped a pants size so now I am fitting into all my size 20 jeans -Yay!  But that's not the NSV.  I have some jeans that are button and zipper and some that are all elastic.  Yesterday while rushing to the bathroom I pulled my pants down and then realized that I wasn't wearing the elastic ones!  WooHoo!!!

Topic: RE: I'm not getting the signal -Help!
BINGO!  Yep, I'm eating too fast and a little too much.  Because I'm not eating slow enough my brain isn't getting the signal that my sleeve is full!  *rolls eyes*  I don't know why I forgot that!  Yes, I have a food scale, and I will use it from now on.  It's hard to eat slow at the dinner table.  The times when I eat in the living room, either watching tv or on my laptop I can eat much slower.  I know it's not the "acceptable" way to eat....but that works better for me.
 Peace!
