Topic: RE: Chris Christie -- looking good!
Rock Center just posted this pic of Gov. Christie on Twitter. I can already see a big difference in how he looks.

Wishing the best for the governor.

Topic: RE: Happy Day of the Teacher!
I retired after 34 years and now work in the central office part time. One of the schools invited all of us for a Teacher Appreciation luncheon. Barbecue pork, ribs, cole slaw, baked potatoes and this mile high lemon meringue pie in HUGE slices. I was able to resist the pie.....thank God! Just had the shredded pork and cold slaw, it I kept close to regular lunch calories.

And you know what? It didn't really bother me to pass up the baked potato and pie. This is a major shift in my attitude since surgery. I even left about 1/4 of the food on my plate.

I had surgery 14 months ago at 61. You can look at my signature to see my weight loss progress. I didn't have any complications at all....was able to drink and eat according to the Dr. schedule. Best decision I ever made. I feel great and my arthritis no longer bothers me.

I absolutely agree with maintaining a few pounds under goal. Even though I'm only 3 months into maintenance, I've stayed pretty consistent within a 2-3 lb range even thru the holidays.

Yesterday was one of those where i wanted to 'eat everything in sight' days. Today I had to pull the reins in.

Topic: RE: Diet Soda

Any bubbly beverage just doesn't sit well on my tummy - soda, seltzer, champagne. My nutritionist didn't say anything about staying away from carbonated beverages, but I've found I just don't tolerate them well and since it has been almost a year since I've had a diet Dr. Pepper, I really don't think about it anymore.

Topic: RE: What foods are you permanently unable to eat after surgery?

I've only been in maintenance about 6 weeks and am still experimenting. Carbonated anything just doesn't sit well --- too many bubbles I suppose. I still haven't tried pasta and I'm not really interested in it too much anymore.....hope that continues.

Some things I used to love are kinda blah now.....desserts in general (too darn sweet), tortillas, bread, crackers -- they sit heavy and none of them are appealing.

Topic: RE: Need to have a sleep study
I thought I'd be able to get rid of my CPAP when I reached goal, but it's not to be. Had a reevaluation last week and still need to use it. I'm not terribly disappointed because I sleep soooooo much better with my mask, but do find it a hassle to lug about when traveling as I don't trust packing it in my suitcase in case my bag doesn't make it to my destination.

I've been on CPAP for over 6 years, originally experiencing over 60 episodes and hour. Needless to say, I wasn't getting much rest before I was diagnosed.

Topic: RE: How did you come up with your goal weight?

I set my goal just inside of a normal BMI....at 180.... 6'0" tall. My surgeon wants me at 155 but i don't intend to go there. That would put me at a BMI of 21. I'm in a 12-14 now and at 62 I think that's just fine. My current weight is 173 and if I can hold between 170-175 I will be a happy woman!

Topic: RE: Quest Craving Peanut Butter Cups

I tried these during weight loss and they were a trigger food for me then. Since I've been at goal I've tried them again - trying to bump up my calories without relying on high carb, protein poor foods.

I find that eating one of these for a snack on most days is working out just fine and don't seem to send me into a carb binge. I like the Chocolate brownie one best. I heat it in the microwave for 10 sec, cut it into 10 small bites and it satisfies my chocolate fix while giving me 20g. Protein.

Diane,

I made your Cinnamon Almond recipe so many times pre-op --- it's one of absolute favorite snacks. My family just loves them too -- brought me a 5 lb bag of almonds to make for them to take on vacation last summer to the beach.

I had not had any during weight loss and wouldn't allow myself to make them until I reached goal. Those almonds were the first 'treat' I made when I hit goal.

Thanks so much for posting this recipe over a year ago......my whole family thanks you too

I was sleeved in January at 61. It was the easiest surgery I've ever had and recovery was relatively fast. Was back at work in 3 weeks. I had occasional weal 'spells' for the first 6 weeks or so, but I just took it easy. Since then I haven't had any problems.

Good luck to you.

Topic: RE: Are there any foods you can no longer tolerate?

Another Crystal Light hater here - had to give away boxes and boxes of the stuff. The citric acid absolutely does not agree with my tummy.

Some foods I no longer enjoy, almonds being one. I used to not like chocolate at all --- unAmerican, I know . Now I really like chocolate, especially dark. I allow myself 2 pieces of Dove dark choc a day. Never thought I'd ever like it.

Chicken, if dry, doesn't sit well and steak isn't something I enjoy any longer.

Topic: RE: How much popcorn can you eat?

I've been at goal for a few weeks and eat popcorn a couple of times a week. I use this popcorn popper because I have never like the 'chemical' taste of the bagged microwave popcorn.

http://www.amazon.com/Nordic-Ware-60120-Microwaver-Popcorn/dp/B00004W4UP/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1352864842&sr=8-1&keywords=popcorn+popper+microwave

I measure out 2T. corn, spray with a small amount of butter flavored cooking spray, and then sprinkle with popcorn salt after popping. Makes about 5 cups popped. Total calories - 90

I don't have a problem with eating all of it - popcorn is a slider food for me so it doesnt fill me up. So far it's a food I can control --- now peanut butter is a whole other issue! It does not enter my house. My pre-op love affair with peanut butter is alive and kicking!!
