I guess.....if you can stomach it.  Miracle Whip makes me vomit.

Topic: RE: Incisions-How well did your heal?
Mine have almost entirely faded....if you weren't looking for them....they would be hard to see (8 months post op).

Mine healed fine....no issues with infection and I could take showers/etc the day I got home.

Feystorm......guys (even married ones....lol) can appreciate it when a woman looks good.  You look fantastic!  It's hard to not give a second glance when you see someone lookin fine!  I totally get you on the creepy stares and stuff though.  Lotta mouth breathers out there.

I have had a few people start flirting with me lately and yeah I was totally oblivious it until someone pointed it out later.  I guess its just something to get used to!

Grats on the size six!

Topic: RE: feeling better but question...
 OMG....you are a genius.  I don't know why I didn't think of this....

A lot of this stuff started happening right after I ceased taking my blood pressure meds.  They told me to just stop cold turkey because my pressure and pulse were SUPER low.  My pulse got as low as 39 while I was at the clinic.

Took my BP today (been off meds for 3 weeks now) and its 121/59, pulse of 47.  Maybe it wasn't the meds making it so low after all.

Anyways...thanks for the well wishes.  I'm starting to feel much better so I think this was just a bump on the downward slope of the my weight loss.

The only brand I could drink was Premier Protein RTD shakes.  They are pre made and cost a bit more than the mixes.....but they taste better (imo) and are very portable and don't need a fridge (although they taste better cold....like most things I guess).

You can get them at Costco or Sams Club.  I still have one each morning.

Topic: RE: College-afraid to mess up
 Hi!

I know exactly what you are going through right now.  When I graduated high school I weighed right around 230...yes overweight but not horrible by any stretch for a guy who is 5'11".  I worked on avg between 30-40 hours a week and had a full time course load in college.  I also tried to maintain a social life.

Guess what suffered?  Yep....proper meal planning, exercise, etc.  I graduated at a weight of 330.

The point I am trying to make is that your health absolutely has to be the highest priority.  In your type of time crunch.....planning is essential.  Make weekly menus.  PACK YOUR FOOD.  They have some amazing coolers that will keep food ice cold for 10-12 hours at a time and are not that big.  We don't need much anyways. ;)

There are also healthy options at fast food restaurants as long as you can mentally handle going there and not getting sucked into the unhealthy crap.  I'm not sure where you are going to school but you can pick up things like greek yogurt, string cheese, jerky, etc at many small markets or even gas stations.  Some campuses are like small cities these days with what they have available.

You can do it...but it will take a concerted effort on your part.  It is awesome that you realize it might be a challenge and trying to get help.  Good luck!

Topic: RE: i need advice from ppl who have been sleeved for a while
Your surgeon is probably great with the scapel but an idiot with nutrition.  It's not his fault....they don't teach nutrition in med school these days.  1200 cals at 1 month out?

This is the typical "3 week stall" that nearly EVERYONE goes through some point in their first two months.  Do an OH search.....might be the most talked about topic on here.

Now normally I would say.....stick to what your doc and program say to do but since he doesn't seem to know what he is talking about...I would tell you this:

Make sure you are getting adequate protein.  Not sure if you can get your 60-80g per day at this point yet or not....if you can't....make that your #1 goal.

Drink, drink, drink.....you need to be hydrated.

Don't worry about having too few calories.  I would say 400-500 is normal right now if not a bit high.

Be consistent in your efforts and approach.  Do not freak out over stalls.  This is a marathon not a sprint.  If you can verify that you are eating correctly (you are journaling?) then this is just your body adjusting.  You can do it and don't need to make any radical changes.

Topic: RE: feeling better but question...
So my four day old fever finally broke (it was going between 100-101).  I forced myself to take off from work....first time since surgery 7 months ago.  That in itself is amazing.  I probably had to call out 5-6 times a year when I was at my highest weight.

When my fever broke tonight and I woke up my bed sheets were literally SOAKED....I've never sweated that much in my life....it was like someone dumped a bucket on me.  Crazy.  I feel much better now though.  Still have no appetite but got down a protein shake and some crystal light and they are holding steady.  No nausea or diarrea like I was experiencing.

The other thing that is strange is that I had mentioned that for the past 3-4 weeks I was suddenly VERY cold all the time.  It didn't matter if I had layers of clothes and the heater up...I was cold.  I would blast the heater in my car.  When I woke up today after sleeping for about 12 hours straight and the fever broke....I'm no longer cold.  I'm sitting here in shorts/t shirt and not cold.  Something very odd.  The other odd thing is that during that time period (again past 3-4 weeks) I've been stalled at 222-223.  Just sorta bouncy back and forth.  No cheats....just a pause I figured and I've been consistent.  Well tonight I decide to jump on the scale and I'm down to 217.  That is a five pound loss in 2 days.  Crazy.  Not good that it was because I was sick...but still.

So yeah...these are just some very strange issues.  I just got blood drawn for a full panel (including thyroid) and am waiting on the results.  I hope everything is ok.

Sorry to ramble!  Just wanted to share and see if anyone else had experienced this type of thing....either after surgery or just in life before.  I've had the flu and stomach virus and what not before and it wasn't as extended or as draining as this seemed to be and then just end suddenly.  Maybe I had something really bad and my immune system finally got the job done...who knows.

thanks for reading!

Grande regular coffee (love the dark roast) with splenda and just a splash of half/half.

Grande iced cofee with splenda and a splash of half/half.

I'm boring....never been a fan of all the sugary type drinks (at least with coffee).  My choice comes down to the weather and time of day.  Cold out or in the morning (hot) - warm out or afternoon ****d).  LOL.

Topic: RE: maybe just sick?
So I posted yesterday about feeling bad and cold all the time and lethargic.  It's been going on for a little bit (few weeks) but I think it was especially pronounced yesterday when I made that post.

Since then....I have completely lost my appetite and basically lived on the toilet.  Yep....I have some sort of stomach bug.  I got a good fever (101), chills (yay), and nothing will stay in me for long (but no vomiting - just the other end).   No stomach pain or issues there.  I don't think its a sleeve problem but rather a nice little virus.

I'm actually a bit relieved that this is probably why I felt like complete crap yesterday and not some severe vitamin deficiency.  I am main lining water tonight at work (yep had to work) and hopefully it goes away quickly.

Topic: RE: low pulse/cold/fatigue
hey everyone!

Just a quick check in.....still plugging along.  I've been dealing with some med problems lately and trying to get a handle on them.   I'm not sure if they are surgery related or what is going on.

I found out during my last surgeon vist that I had VERY low blood pressure and pulse (102/60, pulse of 42).  They were a bit concerned and told me to start checking it every day.  The day before surgery it was 132/90 (with meds) and a pulse of 78.

I have done so and its still really low every day (even after I stopped my blood pressure med).  I am also FREEZING all the time...even when its 70+ degrees.  I swear I can almost see my hands turning blue sometimes.

Anyways...am having some blood tests done and what not.......doc seems to think it might be hypothyroid or anemia.  Don't see the anemia as I eat a crap load of protein....but who knows.  I still take my Centrum multivite daily (w/ iron).

Anyways...I am still here and check OH frequently....just not in the mood to post much these days.  Weight loss has slowed but still 1-1 1/2 lbs a week since I only have about 35 more lbs to lose.

Topic: RE: six month surgeon visit
So I have my six month "check up" with my surgeon tomorrow.....technically at 7 months out because he was gone on vacation through July. Everything has gone very well.  I feel wonderful and energetic.

I have an appointment with my gen doc to talk about my prescriptions......I think its about time I weaned off my blood pressure med.  I'm starting to have some dizzy spells and I think its related to that.

Other than that....anything I should be certain to ask about at this point or labs I should make sure he orders?

Topic: RE: First date = Sushi?
Sashimi with lots of soy/wasabi (if your sleeve like it).  Heaven and very healthy!

Topic: RE: NSV......slim fit...what????
I hear ya on the sizing.  No choice though - I've got two job interviews coming up in the next 3 weeks.

I bought just enough to get me through those and I'll see what can get taken in after that.

Topic: RE: What to drink???
Hmm........I've heard that before but hasn't been as issue (at least for me).  My iron levels are perfect and I literally have had 2-3 cups of coffee per day since about 8 weeks out.  I balance out any potential "dehydration" by drinking a lot more water to go along the rest of the day.

I do a Centrum Multivit w/ iron daily though and I do understand that everyone has a differing ability to absorb certain minerals/nutrients.

I wish you well.....I would go nuts without my tea/coffee.

Topic: RE: What to drink???
Why can't you have tea?  I had herbal tea the day I got home and have both herbal and black tea regularly now.

I also drink coffee daily.....no issues.  Not sure who said you couldn't have tea...unless there is some other non sleeve reason for it.

My beverage of choice is water, very diluted Hawaiian punch/crystal light (sugar free), coffee, tea, or the random 0 cal Lifewater or Powerade Zero. No soda.  No alcohol.

Topic: RE: NSV......slim fit...what????
So I went shopping for a new suit and some dressy clothes yesterday.  I grabbed some shirts to try on......hmmm damn too big.  What else is there.......the salesperson directed me to some "slim fit" style shirts.  They are more tapered towards the waist and tighter fitting.

I kind of looked at him like....WTF...do you not see who you are talking to?  There has to be some 2x or something around here.  Well.....after a bit of back and forth....

Yeah...they fit perfectly.  WTF indeed.

Topic: RE: Mc Donald's
I admit.....with your title I was expecting the worst.

Nutritional information with what you told us (no bread, no mayo I assume) comes out to 200 cals, 28g protein, 2g carbs.  Not a horrible choice at all.  Good amount of sodium (600mg).

I couldn't eat the whole thing.....not a chance.  I would probably split it into 2 meals if I ever got one.  I've found that fast food just does not taste nearly as good as it used to.  When I start chewing it up well it just....well loses its appeal.

To each their own though.....glad you enjoyed it.

Topic: RE: Preops - Pics???
They are very motivating......like I said in my six month pictures.....I find myself having no problem posing for pictures now and I am in A LOT more.  I used to hide when the camera came out.

When I was pre op I was always looking at pictures of people at goal or looking at videos on Youtube....it helped keep me strong while I fought to get the surgery.

Topic: RE: swallowing pills
I could take pills as soon as I got home.....had no problems.

Topic: RE: Egg mcmuffin
The only exception to this that I make is Wendy's chili.  The rest....blech.

Try it....go to McDonalds and just get the meat, cheese, and egg....and see if you can choke it down.  It doesn't taste good to me anymore.....actually a bit cringe worthy.
