Topic: RE: Surgery Date Schedule but....
Yep you will be fine!  Also - remember that the death rate for all of us is eventually 100%.  What kind of life do you want for the time you have?  That is why you are doing this right?  To live a longer and fuller life?

Go get it!
Topic: RE: Who Says VSGers Don't Eat Good? pics
Damn that looks good.  Makes sense that type of meat would do well in a sleeve.  Marinated and cooked very tender.  Awesome pictures!
Topic: RE: Terrified: Feminine Issues after VSG (Biopsy at 9am tomorrow)
Jenn,

You will be ok.  Wierd coincidence....my wife had the exact same thing (thickened walls) and she had to go in for the biopsy last Friday.  The doc said that they do a lot of these and it is almost always "just to be sure".  We are still waiting on results but they certainly gave us the impression that it is a common thing to happen and get checked out.

My wife has had 1 baby (4 years ago) and they said its more common for mothers.   The thickness of the uterine wall can also vary quite a bit during your cycle....if they did the ultrasound towards the end....it is definitely going to be thicker because there is more "stuff" in there.

Oh just FYI.....my wife said the biopsy was uncomfortable but not overly painful but they did give her some IV drugs to take the edge off.  You may or may not want them.  She was sore for about 36 hours afterwards but afterwards felt competely fine after that.  Because of the drugs they needed someone to go with her...you probably will need that too (someone to drive you home after).  The whole thing took about 45-50 mins.

Sorry if it sounds wierd for a guy talking about this stuff - I just got a crash course on it in the past two weeks myself.  You will be fine!  Good luck.

Topic: RE: CUCUMBERS A SLIDER FOOD????
I wouldn't consider it a slider food.  You can obviously eat quite of bit of it....but it doesn't have the other "characteristics" of a slider food (easy to eat, high sugar, processed, can just eat and eat and eat).

In the end.....I doubt anyone ever gained weight eating cucumbers.  Maybe I am wrong...but I don't see the problem.
Topic: RE: Frisco Inspired...white plate included
That looks amazing!!!!!!!  Scallops are a personal favorite of mine.  How do they do in the sleeve?  They always seem so dense to me that they would really hard to chew well.

I always assumed my seafood after the sleeve would be all things like crab meat, tuna, flaky fish, etc.  It's good news to know that scallops can be handled if cooked properly.
Topic: RE: appeal gone out.....prayers would be nice!
I mailed out my appeal to Health Net today.  Hopefully they will review it quickly and not drag their feet.

Big thanks to all of you who shared your encouraging words, appeal letters, and stories with me.  My time is coming!

Topic: RE: Is oatmeal still a good breakfast food?
Since when has oatmeal been a healthy breakfast food?  The "normal" dietary advice is making us all fat.
Topic: RE: Chipotle-- The reason that I am having this surgery!!!!
Just one burrito?  I can eat two over the course of an hour.  Or a burrito + 3 soft tacos in one sitting.

Yep - there is a reason I am having this surgery.
Topic: RE: Does Milk count as carbs?
Almond milk works great and you don't even taste the difference in a protein shake.  Very good substitution.

And yes.....milk is full of carbs (lactose sugar).  The lower the fat content...the more sugar.
Topic: RE: Highly discouraged
Yeah you are losing at a very good pace.  Whoever told you that you weren't is not being honest with you.
Topic: RE: Frisco-Taco Time !!!
Saving this for after sleeve......I LOVE mexican food and these look amazing.  Thank you!
Topic: RE: It's depressing
Yep - dont' compare your weight loss to anyone elses - especially on OH.  There are people here with lots of weight to lose and based on your stats.....don't take this wrong - but you likely don't have near as much to lose.  Therefore 15 lbs for you might be the same as 30-40 for someone like me who has 170-180 lbs to lose.

15 lbs sounds pretty good - talk to your doctor and find out what his expectations are for you.  The main thing is consistency.......you always want to see down or stable.....not going up.  If that is what happens its all good!
Topic: RE: I cancelled my surgery
You made the right decision - and I hope your insurance company agrees.  I was approved for the RNY or Band but wanted a sleeve and I have been in a protracted fight with my ins. company.  So don't assume that you will automatically be approved - I hope you are! - but be ready to fight for it if this is what you want.

Good luck!
Topic: RE: Family Issues
You've dropped basically 1/3 of your body weight and she doesn't see it?  I think she may need a new pair of glasses.

if that is you in the avatar you look amazing!  Keep it up.  I would be honest with her and tell her that you know what you are doing and would like support only - no criticism, no questioning, etc.  If she is not comfortable with that, then you will keep your weight loss journey to yourself.
Topic: RE: When you say 40 or less carbs........
LOL....love that last line.....and this is total mainstream medical BS.  I know a competitive marathon runner who hasn't eaten over 20g carbs a day in over a decade.  It is a myth that you NEED carbs to exercise.  Hell its a myth that you need carbs period.

Topic: RE: Almost guilt free Peanut butter pie
Yep those are great subs.  Especially the nut crust.....not too hard to make either.
Topic: RE: When you say 40 or less carbs........
What do you mean by usable carbs?
Topic: RE: 2.5 months in the hospital - finally HOME!

Now that is great news!  We are all pretty worried about you.  I wish you continued success on your recovery!

Topic: RE: Dirty Little Secrets...Just for fun
I can unfortunately say that I have been browsing the forums on OH while eating fast food, chips, tacos, etc.

What an embarassment! :(
Topic: RE: Dirty Little Secrets...Just for fun
Take away the corn tortillas or eggo waffles and that doesn't sound like too bad of a breakfast.  Hmmm.
Topic: RE: Anyone heard any recent complications on Dr. Ramos Kelly?
I heard that the person who died was a OH member (gibgirly) and that she died from a nicked artery.  I haven't been able to find a link to confirm it, but have heard that information from several different sources.  I really wish we could find out what happened.
Topic: RE: Metallic taste??
Yep - ketones are released in your breath as well as urine and it does cause a funky taste in your mouth.

I'd put money on it that is what it is....especially if you are on a mostly protein diet right now.
Topic: RE: Time Off Work
I am a Humane Officer and am lifting animals all day like you.  I plan to ask for 5-6 weeks off. :)  I have vacation time saved up and we have pretty generous short term disability in CA as well.
