Topic: RE: 65 Weeks Out & Eating More
Yes, I could definitely over eat the 800 when not being strict with myself. It is work, I agree. I was keeping better track of my intake on myfitnesspal but was unable to be on the computer for several months so I got lazy on tracking. I finally got off 5lbs right before Christmas that had been sticking like glue for months. But then I overindulged like an idiot and ate trigger foods. Now those 5 lbs are back on and I'm having to really try to get my head cut into what I'm doing. Thanks for the reply and the support!

I admit I have gotten lax about measuring lately. I know it's definitely still a tool I need to be using. Thanks for that reminder!

I guess I am able to eat more now because my sleeve is no longer swollen. I've noticed over a period of time an increase in the amount of food I eat. I am still not eating the quanitity I was pre-op of course, but a far cry from the 1 1/2-2 oz of food immediately following post-op. I still have 30 lbs to go to my goal and my weight loss has slowed considerably because of this I'm sure. Just curious to know if this is a common experience this far out of surgery? Thanks!

I assume you are making it since you said you bought cauliflower for rice.
If I'm eating at the resteraunt buffet, I alway get the beef n broccoli dishes or the seafood that usually consists of shrimp & crab meat.

Good idea! Go back to the beginning, the basics. Stick to the rules. It will come back off. I'm sure it was hard to say "I gained the weight back" but, probably not as difficult as dealing with it on your own. Hang in their, keep us posted on your progress.
Best wishes.

Topic: RE: Grazing guilt!!
I understand. Today has been one of those days for me too. Everytime I turned around, I was hungry. I tried to make sure that I was eating dense protein and drinking plenty of fluids. You know, all the "advice" rec'd when excessively hungry. I didn't work out today, but I did a good work out yesterday. So, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I'm just hoping for a new day with a new beginning tomorrow. I pray the same for you. Tomorrow is a new day!

Many receive the VSG for the purpose of curing their diabetes. My bestie of almost 30 yrs is one.

Topic: RE: 13 days till surgery and thinking of cancelling
I didn't read all the responses so please forgive me if this sounds repetitive.

I have a 2 yr old and a 1 yr old. I was put on no restrictions after surgery. Now, I didn't go home and start lifting. I was slightly sore. So, I kept it within reason. 2 weeks and you should cautiously be fine I would think. Ok, so that is out of the way.

Now, so you are thinking of running but won't have the surgery becuase you won't be able to carb up? Ok. Will you be running w/out the surgery?

If you do elect to have the surgery, I assure you there are lots and lots of wls patients that run marathons and did physical activities they never did before losing the weight. Many use it as a new way of life, new goals, help to maintain...not saying you have to run marathons to maintain. Everyone's wants and needs will vary. But don't let that scare you away.

It's your choice if you have it or not. Let me ask you 1 question. Where do you see yourself in 1 yr if you have the surgery? Where do you see yourself in 1 yr if you do not. That is a question only you can answer. Will you be the same? Heavier? Healthier?

Maybe it's time for some soul searching and thinking about that baby and what kind of values and lifestyle do you wish to instill in him.

Best wishes.

Topic: RE: Back pain
Just one more thought to add to the other suggestions...

We are losing weight, rapidly in the honeymoon phase. Most of us probably do not have good strong cores. I would start to work on strenghthening my abs and back. It will help with any further pain and will prevent future injuries to the back and hopefully hernias. Don't forget to do stretches. Stretching is wonderful! Feels wonderful! Best of luck to you.

They're your medical records and if you haven't signed a release for your pcp I would. 2 wks seems a bit much. Must be a pat answer for their office. Not trying to sound negative about it. I know somethings take time. Ask them if you can come by to get your records if they won't fax per your request...see what they'll do for you. Just a thought.

Topic: RE: good carbs
I eat my veggies for carbs..broccoli, baby carrots, peppers, green beans....any non-starchy veggie.

That's just me though. I stay away from potatoes, rice, bread, and pasta. I know not all do but that's me and my nutritionist.

Best wishes.

Topic: RE: discouraged
Medifast,Nutrisystem...it's all the same. Eventually you have to quit buying and eating it. And we all know what happens then....Yeh, I know, there's a maintenance phase....just like the Atkins and so many others....I'm sorry she's not supportive and obviously not someone you can talk with prior to surgery. I'll bet you'll make her a believer though with your success! Have a blessed one!

Topic: RE: Weight loss wonder pill that doesn't make you sick could be on sale within three years
Anything that we consume that is manmade or processed (pharmeceutical esp) I do not consider a healthy alternative. Glad to not take pills for the rest of my life that have side effects that make me sick.

Isn't this crazy??? I've had the worst knee, lower back bain and siatica lately. I've done stretches on top of stretches but it doesn't seem to totally alleviate it. The pain gets worse in the evening too. I really do miss my NSAID'S at times like these! lol Hope ya'll get some relief!

If your going by my nutritionist....total carbs. I don't know why she's opposed to the net but, she is. So, I go by total. I still find myself checking out what the net carbs are just out of curiosity.

Look up harry tongue or black harry tongue disease. I don't know if this would be it but it's a start. Still, call your Dr.

Topic: RE: I've lost 60 lbs, but it's not worth it.
I too did extensive research looking for stories of complications.
Most of them I found concerning RNY. Of course, there is more long-term data on the bypass than the VSG.

My best advice, although unwarranted, would be to continue doing your research and carefully look into several surgeons in your area. Check their stats on deaths and complications. What were the complications stemmed from after surgery....non-compliance from the patient or surgical error?

I did my research and spoke to patients myself. I decided to go with a bariatric center 2 hours away because their reputation was outstanding. 0 deaths, way under the national avg for complications. They covered the whole gammit in one building to cover the patients needs. Psych, nutrition, exercise, surgery, more nutrition, they even have support groups right at the center. They make themselves very available to you. Even my surgeon gives his cell phone to you after surgery.

No wonder so many out of staters go to see him. Well, there's actually 2 Dr's in the facility.

Best wishes to you too!

Topic: RE: I've lost 60 lbs, but it's not worth it.
Please let me add to the many responses of how sorry I am that you have faced such health problems after your surgery. It is a serious surgery and one that does not come without risks.

I thought of those risks myself before having surgery, but for me, I was headed down a path of destruction that was just as scary. I have 3 children and a husband I don't have any desire of leaving behind too soon.

I hope and pray that you are on your path of recovery now. I wish you nothing but the best of health from here on out.

Please take care and keep us posted on your healing. This forum, I believe, is full of people that are concerned for your well being.

Have a blessed day.
