 Richlands, NC Member Since: 12/14/05 [Latest Posts] | Post Date: 8/22/07 12:27 am I didn't have to loose any but my surgery was 5 years ago... I've noticed that some doctors require weight loss prior to surgery and others don't so you'll have to see what your doctor requires.

Insurance requirements appear to be different. I didn't have to lose weight - My insurance (United Health Care) just required DR documentation that I had a BMI of 40 for the past 5 years. I was just approved and I am scheduled for RNY on 9-25. Good luck with your process.
