Hey Ladies! I was just wondering who has or has had the Implanon? When i told my Gyno that I had LapBand and the don't want us getting pregnant within the first year she said this is what she would like to me to have. Considering I don't like taking pills this is just fine with me! So.. What I really want to know is... How do you like the Implanon? Did your insurance cover any of it? Have you had any side effects? How often do you have bleeding while on it? Does it only feel like a pinch when they put it in? I am currently awaiting preauthorization from my insurance to see if they will cover any of it. I don't know anyone who has this, so I'm hoping to hear from you guys! Thanks!

ok i think i told you about the implanon. i went to tell you all about it the other day and wrote a long response and them my internet went down. How do you like the Implanon? i love it! Did your insurance cover any of it? I have tricare prime, they covered it at 100%
Have you had any side effects? seriously none! well if you call brusing (on your arm) a side effect.
How often do you have bleeding while on it? now i havent had it that long, but i will tell you it has made me regular. i was on the pill, if i even took it  an hour late i would start bleeding. i have had no spotting, break through bleeding, exactly 3 1/2 weeks after i got the implanon i had a regular period, not heavy, just totally normal.
Does it only feel like a pinch when they put it in? ok i know you want honesty, so no it hurts more then a pinch. well have you ever had lidican? they shoot you up with that in your arm first, that crap hurts its a real stingy feeling. then they put the implanon in, after the lidacain you dont feelk anything. about 3 hours after i got it in, the lidican wore off, and i was sore for the remainder of the day. by the next day i had a lot of brusing, it didnt hurt though. it took about 2 1/2 weeks for all the brusing to be gone. on another side note are you on any birthcontrol now? if your not then you have to get implanon inserted within the first few days of your period, if your on birthcontrol then it doesnt matter when it gets inserted. also you only need a backup method for 8 days!

Wow! This is great! Thanks for such a detailed response! So far it sounds wonderful =) I really can't wait to find out how much my insurance will cover. I went on their website and they did say they consider it medically necessary, so I think that is a good sign! I had a feeling it was more than the "pinch" they claim it to be, but that is okay. I am pretty sure I can handle it. Especially only once every 3 years.

I never have had lidicane, but if it is anything like the heparin shot then I can handle it. Although i hated the heparin shots after surgery because they do burn like crazy. And they bruised me really really bad.  I am on birth control now, but my gyno said that she will still wait until I am on my period.  How long did preauthorization take for you?? Ohhh how big is the needle they use to put it in? Well now I am actually excited about this. Who knew you could be excited about something that sounds so painful. lol

I am battling with insurance now lol. I called them and was told that it is covered, but the office called and they were told that it was not covered. Then the website says it is considered medically necessary lol.  The lady from my OB/gyn's office I guess just called and asked about birthcontrol? and they typed it under like birthcontol pills and of course they don't do medicines so they told her to talk to my prescription insurance company. The lady I talked to said she needs to call and tell them that it is a device,  not a medication.... so That it should be covered when she does this....  I hope!

I was justing thinking about this earlier and talking to hubby about it. I need birth control now before my surgery. I just had my first period in 2 years!! I have a 15 month old and I breastfed him till a month ago. I had the mirena IUD and it made me very sick so I had it removed. Im not good with pills and I wasnt sure what else I should use...  Just curious but how far into your arm is it?  can you feel it?  How do they remove it when your ready to start trying for another baby?

I have never heard anything good about IUDs, so I really wanted to stay away from that.

I am not really sure how far down it goes.  It goes into your second layer of skin though.  they have a diagram in the pamphlet I was given on it that shows you, but I could not find the picture on their website (which is www.implanon-usa.com btw.) I know that you are supposed to be able to feel it if your roll your fingers over the site so that they know it is in the right place, but you cannot see a bump or they actual rod itself.   To remove it they make a little incision in your arm and pull it out. Which is done in the office.

ok its not in your arm very thick, just under the skin. now look at your inner upper arm about 2- 2 1/2 inches from your elbow thats where they place it. for removal to either have a baby or its been 3 years they make a small incision and take it out. you can feel the implanon in your arm, however its not visable, unless you point it out.
