So I want to start taking a BC pill and I have seen occasional scary comments on here that some forms of the pill dont work as well for post ops.

Here are my questions:  If you use BC - what do you use?
AND: do you have any experience with other types and why did you switch?

    Thanks!

I decided against chemicals - we use condoms.

If I had gone with something more, I would have chose an IUD. But I didn't want to go through putting it in and taking it out especially when I plan to have another baby sometime next year. We've just been faithfully using condoms.

Wondering if you're feeling normal?? I blog about everything!! Check my page out for more!

    Hi,

I take Sprintek which is a form of the Trycyclenes. I did take Alesse but my GYN said it was overly absorbed by RNY patients and would have a higher rate of failure. He gave me Sprintek (Trinessa) and said it does not break down as fast in our systems. I do not know the breakdown percents or anything, but this is what I have used for 3 months and so far, it seems to be doing the job.

I have been on Lo-ovral BC pill for the past 4 years. I just use the pill and vcf film and haven't had any problems with it at all.  I did try the nuvaring for a few months and just didn't like it at all.

If you are concerned about absorption issues, you might want to consider Depo-provera (sp?).  It is injected once every 3 or 6 months.  One benefit is that you won't menstruate for the 3 months either!

Depo-provera is one of the main causes to my weight gain (about 75 lbs or so).

I use Implanon, its a bc that is similar to the iud, however you get it inserted into your arm. I can also say that i 100% love it. i have normal light periods and no break through bleeding.

    i have tried:
the patch: I did like it but yea i got pregnant on it, so not so much
the pill: i didnt like it but the reason was because even if i was 30min late taking the pill, i would start bleeding, and it would take 3 days for me to stop. and i was only suppose to take the active pill.
with all this said though, i do have pcos, so my experiences may be different if i was "normal" in that department. i really do advocate the implanon. its easy no hassel and good up to three years!

After wls I also was concerned about absorption with my bc's. I talked with my OB and she recommended Mirena IUD. I haven't had any problems with it at all and it lasts for 5 years. (there is a 10 year one also). The only difference I have noticed is that my cramps have gotten worse but in teh last few months seem to be returning to normal.

I was worried about the absorbtion too, so my gyn recommended the Nuvaring. It's a little plastic ring that is placed inside your um "private" area in between periods. It helps regulate your period and you don't have to worry about pills. The only problem is that it is expensive as hell. Even with insurance it cost $75 a month. Luckily my mom is going to Colombia in a month and is getting me a year supply. You don't need a prescription for BC over there and they are WAY cheaper over there too (it's the exact same bc)
