    Hey all,

I am 19 mo. post-op and my weight has been pretty stable for about 7-8 months now. I was wanting to try a colon cleanse and was wondering if anyone else has tried it. I have been hearing about Ever Cleanse on TV and radio but am kind-of afraid. I had the RNY. So anyone else who had the same and have tried it or know of any reason why I should/could not do this please write me back. I just have been feeling so bloated and gassy for quite a while now. Any other suggestions are also welcome.

The best thing to do is check with you dr. and see if he sees anything wrong with it. funny you should post this question b/c right before i came to this site, I had just been checking out the evrcleanse.com website for myself. I heard an ad on radio this am and made a note to self to check it out. sounds good, kind of pricey but if it helps and its okay with my dr i may try it.
you need to talk to your doctor anyway about your gassiness and being bloated. Could just be dietary but i'd check with him just in case.

"Colon cleanses" are simply powerful laxatives; there's nothing magical about them.  These "cleansing" products tend to attract people who are, er, um, "colon focused".  They often contain laxatives that are much stronger than necessary, and which generate "results" at the expense of gentleness (not to mention safety.)

A "colon cleanse" will simply make you have a very urgent bowel evacuation.  And then you'll be back to the same state (colon-wise) as you were the last time you had a BM. In other words, it's more like getting your car washed than it is like getting your engine tuned up: you don't end up being "better" for having put yourself through the experience.  And if you need to regularly take such products to avoid feeling bloated/gassy, as with any stimulant laxative, the more you use them, the more dependent you and your colon can become on them to have regular BMs.

    Hello,

I'm not as smart as you. I decided to try it on my own. Being only 9 months out and not calling my dr. was pretty, well, dumb. I followed the directions given by the person selling it. She said to only put the tea bag in for one minute the first time, 2 minutes the second time and 15 the 3rd time. This being over a 3 day period. I never made it to the second time. It made me cramp very bad, and no movement. You know, we have different plumbing now so things like this is a crap shoot, no pun intended. Anyway, I would use "Smoothmove" tea before I would ever do the other again. I can only speak for myself. Good luck.

The term "cleanse" simply means that you poop.

I have heard doctors talk about herbal "cleanse" products as being very overpriced laxatives.

If we hear the product advertised on TV or the radio, it means you are going to pay a lot more for it.  Advertising is expensive, and it doesn't lend any more credibility to the product.

The colon is a self-cleansing organ that doesn't need a concoction of herbs to help it do its job.  If you eat the right foods (and specifically lay off refined carbs) like fresh pineapple and high-fiber veggies, the problem will not require that you spend any money.

I wouldn't touch those "cleanse" products with a barge pole, because in some cases I have no idea what a particular ingredient is.  I suppose most of them are safe, but I think the main thing that they accomplish is to cleanse your wallet of some dollars.

A good diet with a safe fiber supplement ought to do it.  But you can achieve the exact same results if you eat a few pieces of Ex-Lax.  Lots of pooping, but no real other health benefit.

Cleansing is bogus. Our body is self-cleansing. You don't have tons of poop sitting around in you that has to come out with some special product. It comes out all the time.

The same with any "toxins" in your body. Anything you don't poop, pee, sweat or otherwise eliminate through daily living isn't going to come out because you ingested one of these "cleansing" products, either.
