About Time 100% Whey Protein Isolate is a low calorie high protein ZERO carbohydrate protein supplement.  WHAT?!  Wait!

"The time for compromising taste or nutrition has ended. One sip of About Time Whey Protein Isolate, and you’ll know this is something special. No chalky aftertaste. No artificial sweeteners. Professional athletes, weekend jocks and active people of all ages have discovered About Time is great before or after a workout, and an ideal snack between meals.

I screwed up.

I dumped one packet (like the one above) into 16 ounces of water, and realized after, that the suggestion was to use 8 ounces of water.

Instead of re-doing it, I just added another packet.  The calories in this About Time protein are so low, that it's only 200ish calories for two servings, and 50!! grams of protein.

What I have now, in front of me, is a Strawberry + Birthday Cake Protein Shake (two separate flavors) made with 16 ounces of water and nothing else.  I typically go with jus****er. when I am trying to review a protein powder, because I like to doctor my shakes up after I get the gist of what they are Meant To Be on their own.

The smell of each flavor, before adding to water was merely sweet, no real pungent protein smell at all.  Dumped into my cup, it's a very fine powder with no clumps.  Mixed with too much water, it was very thin, and not at all sweet.  Mixed CORRECTLY, it's slightly creamy, but not at all thick.  There was no foaming even when I shook the crap out of the cup.

Mixed, it's a slightly thinner than a typical artificially sweetened protein powder, but still thick enough that it's not like a clear protein powder base.  Since I mixed two flavors, I can't really tell you if the Strawberry is great by itself, however, I CAN taste the vanilla from the "Birthday Cake" flavor, so the two mixed is YUMMY.  My only complaint is a slight dry lip feel afterwards, like most other whey proteins, but it's not really feeling that way IN my mouth.

One serving would have given me 102 calories, ZERO CARBS and 25 grams of protein.  Since I'm having two because of my mistake, I'm have 204 calories, ZERO CARBS and 50! grams of protein.  That, my friends, kicks protein ass.

This product is sweetened with Stevia, a natural plant based sweetener, and I can't tell.  Had you said it was sweetened with anything else, I wouldn't have known.

If you're looking for super low carbohydrate protein product that is naturally sweetened, About Time Protein is one to try.  After weight loss surgery, it's pretty imperative that we keep the carb level low and the protein level high, and two servings of this product would hit close to the minimum protein requirement for most early post ops.  I find that it's easy to sip, and not leaving any aftertaste, so as a new post-op, this would have gone down smoothly I bet.

And, remember that Consumer Reports biz about METALS in protein?  About Time tested their product:

I found a review from one of my Obesity pals on their website just now, LOL --

The best proteins ... so far July 19, 2010
Reviewer: Hala from Greenville, SC United States

I have been using a lot of protein powders.  And tried and use many different brands over last 10 years.  These ATW proteins are unreal... there are so good.  My biggest problem is not to use too much per day and to make sure I get them before I run out - I really hope that they are as natural as the company claims they are - they just taste too good to be true..."

  • Price - Varies by product
  • Pros - NO ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS!?!  Very low calories per scoop of 25 grams of protein.  ZERO carbohydrates, whey protein isolate, no lactose.
  • Cons - Slight dry lip feel.

I tried a few of their flavors and was not a fan. I do like Jay Robb brand whey protein, though (also all natural, sweetened with stevia).

I dont post much but by far I agree with you. But its not cheap. Wish I would have found this when I first got my surgery done.

I love them.  And the price is right....
My fav is the strawberry and the mint mocha.  They are not too sweet.
I make my strawberry 3 min ice cream with that: use magic Bullet, the 8 oz cup. Use 3 oz of water (or another liquid - use your imagination) add a good scoop of the strawberry powder - blend. Fill the rest of the cup with frozen berries - to the top. Force the blade back on - and run the blender.  You end up with a soft ice cream... - to make i a bit harder - pit in a freezer for 30 min.  (optional - use a few drops of something stronger than water in water - not recommended for early post
I add some extra stevia to the mix... but not too much.

I also use the same strawberry powder in my Greek yogurt.  Mix - then add some frozen berries. If I want it really sweet (I can tolerate too sweet ) - I add a bit more of stevia. mix and yummy....

the review: - was mine...

It's more descriptive than necessary.  LOL.

It's vanilla-esque with a kick of that buttercream.

I personally visited the folks that make this powder. They were so nice and bent over backwards to answer any questions I had. I also obtained a report to make sure that there is no problems with heavy metals (there isn't).

The mint mocha tastes like an Andes mint to me. Yum. I am not a vanilla person, so I didn't like the vanilla (could be good as a coffee creamer...). The chocolate is good. Strawberry was okay, but not my fave (not a strawberry shake lover). None of these had foaming problems when I shook them.

I made a batch of cookies - with the said proteins and stuff... all WLS friendly... will need to send you some..  or from the next (BTW - not for sale... - just for me - I do not like real food lately - so I trick myself into eating -  the cookies... )

Imagine conversation on Sunday with my friend:
Me - drinking coffee and having a cookie (I was really hungry after the yoga)
To my friend: " Would you like to try a cookie?"
My friend: " No, thanks...I am on a diet, can't have any". Then " Wait, wasn't you suppose to eat cookies?".
Me " They are OK, I made them" .  I took the second cookie and start eating.
My friend - looking at me - "Looks like you lost a few lbs lately...again, what did you do? "
Me - "yea, lost 3 lbs, ate the cookies."
She "Give me the darn cookie"  after a break during which she ate the cookie: "Hey - this is great, you better give me recipe" lol...

I laughed when I saw your name on their website.

Any chance you will share the recipe?

I'm getting desperate for a way to get more protein in and to get myself to eat something.  Lately I have lost all interest in eating. Only manage 2-3 bites then feel like I'll get ill if I take another bite.

I would - but i think you are too early for the cookies.  I am 2.5 yeasr post op - at goal and need to eat.
The cookies have a lot of fiber and ... seeds and nuts, and some fat.
Maybe 6 months into the program you could eat them.  IMO. When first time i made the cookies - I did not add as much "stuff".  they were blah.... The fisrt 2 dozens - took me 2 weeks to eat.  Now - can't keep them in the house.

Go to eggface website - and look for simple receipes.  One of my fav - was protein ice cream.  Easy to make and really good.
I will try to make a smal batch for "early post op" people.  if i can make it eatable - I will send you recipe...
BTW: I eat nuts all the time - but i need to be on a low carb due to reactive hype. And the extra fat is needed to hel stabilize my BS.

I ordered a packet of each to try out. Keeping my hopes up as I haven't found a protein drink I like yet.

Anyone have any recipes for any of the flavorings, please share.

do you have magic bullet? (the recipe doe not work in normal size blender)
if you do - here what you can do - use the small 8 oz cup. Crass blade.
Take 3 oz of water (or milk) + 1 scoop of protein. + little bit of a sweetener (I use stevia). Blend.
Remove the blade - fill the cap with frozen berries - pack it thight. Put (force) the blade on and blend until all the frozen fruit is turned into a mush. (you will hear that - and see) Unscrew the blade - eat soft ice cream.
More or less water - liquid - will give it more - less frozen consistency. Yields -8 oz of soft ice cream. can be frozen - all or part - for later - as good... if not better)
