    olive garden???

     hi all
right after my support meeting tonight my bf and i are going to olive garden. he got a gift card for christmas.  what can i eat there?  any one go there? thanks, anita
Whaaat? You had your RNY 7 years ago and have not gone to the Olive Garden? I had the DS and within a month I was at the Olive Garden. Tee-hee.

Naturally, you should stick to protein as much as possible. The bread is fab, but you may not want to do that because of the carbs (I eat about 3 breadsticks dripping in alfredo sauce, myself). They have some grilled meat stuff. Also, some soup would work.

    Good luck and enjoy!

yup. never been to olive garden. i go to the chinese buffetts alot... yummmmmmmmmm
the bread sticks with alfredo sauce sounds very good.
OK--if you are not carb-adverse, then maybe you'd like my favorite:

    Steak Gorgonzola-Alfredo
little steak medallions with balsamic on it and grogonzola sauce on tons of fettuccine pasta. It's awesome and cheap.

Seriously, check out their menu online--lots of good choices!

    Enjoy!

I eat there on occasion. They have a nice apricot chicken that works well, I do scrape off the apricot stuff because of the sugar content. The bit that's left does nothing bad to me. They have a nutrition guide on their website where you can look at the facts for their food too. Check it out. I've also had the stuffed chicken and braised ribs. I just eat some and take the rest for the next two meals. You know, moderation stuff. Enjoy! :D

Their house salad is yummy.  I like for  the waiter grate cheese in it until his arms get tired.

A lot of their dishes can be ordered without the pasta, so you'll have plenty of choices.  It just depends on what you like.

Do treat yourself to a couple of bites of the bread dipped in maranara sauce.  It's sooo good.  Not too much, or you'll get full.

I get soup and salad when I go. Pasta just doesn't set well with me. I have a friend who insisted on going there soon after her wls. She licked the breadsticks! lol

I think they put crack on those breadsticks.  They are so doggone good!

Thanks for sharing that tid-bit it made me really laugh out loud!!!
Yum.  I was there less than a week ago and they had a new dish on their menu called Capellini di Mare.  It is shrimp, clams and mussels in a white wine and garlic marinara/clam sauce.  Yummy.  I asked them to substitute the capellini for whole wheat linguini.  There was plenty of protein in it and I did enjoy te whole wheat pasta too.  I wasn't able to eat a lot but what I did was very good.  I ate a few bites of the salad and a bite of a bread and was very satisfied.  Enjoy your dinner this evening!

    Anita,

We went right before x-mas, they have a new item on the menu - Seafood Brodecchio ? I think...No pasta in this dish, just seafood and a really nice light tomato/ little citrisy taste - nice piece of tilapia, scallops & shrimp...It was SUPER yummy and like traditional italian it was even better on the re-heat of leftovers...

I've had the apricot chicken too & the seasonal special of pork medalions marsalles also was really tasty and pork not overdone ( at least not at my local spot )...

Enjoy, watch out on filling up too fast on the salad and not having room for the real meal...

This may sound gross but I ask for cooked spinach as a substitute for pasta and have them put whatever meat/sauce combo on top of the spinach. I like it! I agree, those breadsticks are like CRACK to me and sooo good with alfredo sauce!

    Have fun!
    Peace & Love, Donna K.

The spinach substitute is a great idea.  I didn't know they would do that.

    Hi Anita

I haven't eaten there yet either.  I really don't eat out a lot.  I may be wrong but didn't you post sometime ago about having some blood sugar problems? If that is true you may want to go easy on the pasta dishes, and bread sticks, so you don't have big problems later, pasta is a killer for me.   Enjoy yourself though, eat what looks good to you, and what you feel is good for you.  I would go for the veggies, and if you eat meat the meat dishes.  Just enjoy your Date Night!

yes my blood sugar drops. i have been trying to eat healthy before the new year came. so far i am doing tons better. and drinking lots of water. i saw on the menu a dish with either chicken or beef with grilled vegs. i am trying to limit my carbs and pasta and bread.. anita
They have a baked Talapia with veggies that's good, or a couple other dishes with veggies. We went last night and I had soup and the Talapia. The stuffed Chicken Marsala is really yummy too and you can get veggies instead of potatoes.

I am a bit puzzled by many of you saying you eat pasta and bread. My Nut said they are off limits. Are they something that can be eaten after reaching your goal!
Nothing should ever be off limits to us - just eat in moderation and you will be A-OK :) Yes, you can eat these when you reach your goal, or you can eat them before your goal!! I eat both pasta and bread and I am only one year out ... I was eating both these about 6 months post-op. I do not eat pasta alot but will have small amounts on occasion as this is one of the rare foods that upset my pouch a little.

Some people have trouble eating pasta and breads and so they don't eat them alot. Other people just decide not to eat these anymore at all and stay away 100% of the time. Other people eat these and are fine with it as long as they eat in moderation (me!)
