 What, dumping?  It's normal.

 Dumping doesn't last forever?

I thought 7 years and 9 months was close to forever.

Edited because I didn't read the above posts very clearly -- to say -- I still dump.  Nearly daily.  I have to consider what I want vs. the effect it might have on me.  That said, I can eat much more sugar and carbs than I EVER thought possible as an early post op -- which is playing with fire.
Beth, you know that you're a complete anomaly in the WLS world. If your experiences were the norm, they'd have stopped doing WLS altogether!

 What?

My husband, SIL, MIL and cousin all dump too.  Is it genetic -- in two families?

Only 30% of RNYers dump yet your whole family does? That's really the craps.

*shrug*

We do.  Most of the RNY'ers I know also dump.  Many don't admit to it -- they'll say that their "food makes them sleepy, that's all."

At the support group I went to, where there was easily over 100 people, most of them had RNY and all of them had experienced dumping. I think it's strange that that 30% number keeps coming up. I don't think it's accurate at all either. Every person I've known that had the RNY has dumped.

 I don't believe it for a second.

I think many patients mis-diagnose what IS TRULY a dumping episode -- and just make excuses for feeling poor after ingesting food -- no matter WHAT it is.

People don't expect to dump on healthy foods, either.  There's a lot of individuality in dumping, but I'd say it's much more prevalent than we know.

I agree, Beth - how many times have we seen people posting on here while supposedly dumping?    Feeling a bit rough after eating something is NOT dumping!

I still dump at 7.5 years too - I have it somewhat under control because at this stage I can pretty much tell what will make me dump - it's why I never touch ice cream!

Anecdotally, I would say that 30% is probably closer to the truth than 100% of RNY'ers dump!

"After Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, 50% to 70% of patients experience dumping syndrome in the earlypost-operative period... Only a minority (1%–5%) of patients with dumping syndrome suffer from severe, disabling symptoms."

"Dumping syndrome is a complication of RYGB with reports of 50% to 75% of patients experiencing dumping following this particular surgery. Some patients may experience variable degrees of dumping at least through the first 12 to 18 months."
