I had my surgery (Duodenal Switch) on Tuesday the 31st and have not pooped yet.  Is this normal?  I took some milk of magnesia earlier today and just now took some more.  This is my first post...lol unfortunatly it has to be about pooping ha ha ha.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the bowels moving??

Well, that was only 3 days ago....you cleaned yourself out the night before and I know you haven't eatin that much since...your pretty much empty.  Relax...it will happen..if you start to feel uncomfortable..take some ducolax...Milk of M is a little harsh on the new plumbing at first.

You have not gone or is it you can NOT go. These are different things. No surprise if you have not gone yet...nothing in there !!!

If you find you can not go...remember 80% of the fats go out the back door exit. Peanut Butter is almost liquid and the fat content is to the moon. Works for me...sure do not need it now though. Best of luck.

Congratulations on be switched !!!!!!! Get ready to Love life again !!!!!

It took me 16 days.  Yes that right sixteen long days!!!!  The doctor wasn't too concerned about it but said it wasn't normal.  Just give it time.  It will happen.

Yes, this is normal right after surgery. You may want to consider adding a probiotic to your vitamin regime as you can swallow pills. It has been essential to my "regularity" along my journey.

I have IBS and suffer constipation off and on. What really helps me is to shop in the baby food section of the grocery store. Gerber sells small cups of prunes & applesauce mixed together and it doesn't taste all too bad.

Another option is prune juice mixed with apple juice, or pear juice. (pear works better.) Again, you can find pear juice in the baby food isle.

Most people don't like the taste of prune juice, (including myself) but if you mix equal parts of prune juice with pear juice, it doesn't taste as bad.

    Hope this helps.

Do you see the glass as half empty or half full? I say, what difference does it make--I paid for a full glass,so either way I am getting jipped!!!
