I went to my first pre-surgery class yesterday, and they gave us several different samples of vitamins to try in order to determine what we will take post-op.  I tried the iron supplement today....Bariatric Advantage Passion Fruit flavored.  The taste was suprisingly tolerable, but for about 2.5 hours afterward, it kept coming back.  What a horrible taste!  Does anyone have any suggestions?

I love the bariatric vitamins, except for the cost. I have never had a problem with the taste afterwards, maybe a small piece of fruit or cheese after taking will keep that vitamin taste from coming back.

You can get great vitamins from your local drug store or Walmart/Target to help with the costs. They aren't as tasty, but my labs are still as good.

I take heme iron.  It is suppose to not harm your stomach and you don't have to take with vitamin C.  It is a large pill that you may not be able to take right after surgery.  My anemia has improved since taking them.
Hope you find something that works for you.

Heme is a great iron supplement but in case you don't know, you will absorb it better if you cut it in half before swallowing.  I cant tell you why I just know that the experts from the boards when I started on here 2-3 years ago said that.  You cut it in half and take it without vitamin C and with calcium.  Just make sure that you don't take it within 2-4 hours of thyroid medication

the best iron to start out with is from vitalady.com - it is called tender irons, they are easy on your stomach, easily absorbed and do not cause constiptaion.  They come in 2 types - the chewables are 25mg, dont' know how they taste though.  THese dont' come with vitamin C in them, so you need to take with vitamin C - 200mg per 30mg of iron.  The other type is a 60mg capsule and it has the vitamin C already in the capsule. If you can swallow pills, take the 60mg capsules - they work great, have the C in them and you need atleast 60mg to start with  - most need alot more - my NUT starts us with a minimum of 150mg.
