I don't know anything about how long your insurance may take but I'm definitely sending you some good vibes!

Good luck! I have UHC and my employer opted out of any kind of WLS so now I have to go self-pay.

I have United Healthcare and was denied on my first attempt.  It took them about a week and a half to make their decision and I finally called and was told it had been denied.  It then took me about 2 weeks after that phone call to get the actual denial letter.  I was denied because according to the insurance my employer has set stipulations that I have to be on medications and uncontrolled on those medications for my hypertension and diabetes and I was not.  The benefit department at my employer is unaware of any such stipulation and I am unable to find anything about it in the summary plan description that I have received from United Healthcare.  The doctor has started me on medications in an attempt to meet these requirements but I am filing an appeal based on the fact that nobody seems to have documentation of the medication requirement and I meet all of the other criteria required.  Good Luck to you with your submission and I will send you good vibes!!!!

You need to ask your employer for a copy of the benefit plan, not the summary and you should find your answer there.
I have UHC and they were very quick to approve, but coverage does depend on the benefit plan selected by your employer.

In my case the summary plan description (a thick book which explains in detail all of our coverages an important information and terms related to our policy) is our copy of the benefit plan and the only information my employer has in the benefits department.  It explains in detail all coverages and requirements for coverage also.

    Hey there!

I had UHC back in 2006 when I had surgery.  It took exactly 2 weeks from the time I submitted until I was approved for surgery.  I called them every day, twice a day, for a status (my profile details the hell I went through while waiting!).

My friend had UHC in 2004 when she had WLS and she was approved in 2 days.

Hopefully 2 weeks is the most you will have to wait!  Sending good vibes your way!!

    Hugs,
    Jersey Mom

Hi, I was told that UHC has 15 days to make a decision after they receive all required paperwork from surgeons office.

After a week, give them a call to make sure they have everything they need, then sit back when you know they're all set.  I got approved in 10 days
