I had my RNY revised/repaired about three weeks ago and I'm feeling good.  I have chronic back problems and take 2 or 3 50mg. Tramadol HCL tabs a day.  I have been crushing them but find they don't seem to be doing the trick they did prior to my revision.  Am I better taking them whole or crushed?  Any ideas?

I would call your Dr. I think That is a question for a professional...tinkering with prescription pain meds on your own is never a good idea!!!
Good Luck and Please come back and tell us what he/she said...I am curious as well!!!

I would ask your surgeon, because I remember mine saying something specific about time released meds. and I feel that it was a negative thing; like it won't work the same for us if we have the RNY, or something like that. I honestly can't remember what it was, but I KNOW it was specific to that type, so call and ask. Good Luck.

My surgeon advised against time release meds, but I'm on one anyway. He upped the dosage after my RNY.

Thanks all for your thoughts.  I did ask my surgeon and he said he didn't know how this particular medicine would react - he's not the prescribing doctor.  I'm going to talk to my physician and perhaps ask if there is a non time-released version and give that a try.   I think I might also talk to the pharmacist.

I would contact a pharmacist, they can tell you if this medication can be crushed, some meds are not effective when crushed.
