Be VERY selective.  Seek real-life experiences to be shared.

I do know that there are a couple of known butchers in that area mixed in with some respectable surgeons, so definitely do your homework.  Some have been reported to be practicing under someone else's licence and all kinds of nonsense.  I don't care how much cheaper they are, if you are told by several to NOT use a surgeon, please, for the love of all things holy, PLEASE run far away.

I echo the request to be very careful in selecting your surgeon, and I would add the importance of arranging for follow-up care before going.

I've had several surgeries in Mexico including RNY, medical tourism is not for everyone but it was the best decision I ever made and all great experiences. Echoing the ladies sentiments above... RESEARCH! Be aware there are good & bad Dr.'s in every country and if your insurance won't cover the surgery chances are if you have complications they won't cover those either.

There is a Mexico Forum here on OH. Hit the forum drop down screen above to locate it... not sure how active it is but maybe message some of the people that have posted and ask them some Q's most of us are very willing to share our experiences.

You are welcome to read my blog www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com for my medical tourism experiences. I had RNY in June 2006, plastics in October 2007 & March 2008 (maybe read those posts from around that time for tips, what you might expect)

    Best wishes in your research.

Thank you ladies and OH! I have been doing a lot of research, and I believe I have narrowed it down to two or three.

    Hi there,

I am 3 weeks post-op Bypass from Tijuana Mexico.  I spent 3 years researching and deciding who to go with and should I go to Mexico.

I choose Dr. Corvalla as he has an extensive background in Bariatric Surgery and he has taught in the US.  He also is connected to a real, full service hospital (hospital Angleles and the team of Doctors he has are very well educated and experienced.  He was a little more expensive than some doctors but still much less than in Canada or US and I am really really glad I choose him as I have heard of some other doctors in Tijuana not doing such a good job and folks have had commplications.

My room was private, modern, and I had a TV, separate bathroom, couch and chair.  The nurses offered me exceptional care.  I saw my Doctor 1-2 times per day and there was always a doctor on the team available if you need them.

My vitals were monitored at least 8-10 times per day.  I found everyone excellent to deal with. Most nurses speak at least some english...many speak very good english.  Dr. Corvalla and his team speak fluent English. I  was always able to communicate.

You can expect to stay 3-5 days in hospital.  I needed all 5.  I didn't have any complications it just took me longer.

I you want to know more about my experience I am happy to share with you...don't worry I am not a sales person I am just  a person who has been there.

    Good luck with your Journey.

PS I have lost 23 lbs todate.

    Kfree
