I had my RNY two plus years ago. There is quite often a little bounce back. I have a ten pound regain.

I have also lost that same ten pounds, again.

I eat things like bacon and almonds and cheese. I eat lots of stuff. If I want to lose weight I count my carbs. If I want to maintain I eat twenty carbs or less per meal. If I want to lose then I eat twenty carbs per day!!!

I have backslid and have been eating some bread lately. I've been eating pumpernickle and dark rye breads. I didn't realize how much I missed a simple sandwich and toast. So I plan to continue eating the bread but I make sure to count it in my daily carb totals.

I do not count fat grams and I do not count calories. A calorie isn't a calorie. I only dump on fats if I eat velveeta cheese and rotel dip. I have no problem tho if I use a different cheese.

I eat pork rinds and all kinds of stuff. I eat bacon cheese burgers, tho without a bun usually.

What is making you sick? Log your food and i'm sure there are a lot of people here who can offer some suggestions.

    I hope you feel better.

P.S. I wanted a ds, but my insurance wouldn't pay for it. So I decided i'd make my RNY work for me as best as I could. Oh and every surgery has risks. I had my apron of skin removed from my stomach and ended up almost dying with blood clots that my plastic surgeon missed. So bear that in mind, any surgery is a risk. Only you can decide if the risk is worth it.

Yehuda had is revision a long time ago (he had other surgeries since, as well) and I've never heard that any of his surgeries were suspect in his death.

Getting the DS after having RNY, is a bigger deal surgically than just getting the DS the first time, as a virgin surgery. For that revision, you want one of the real revision surgeons. Have you contacted either Rabkin or Kesheshian in CA?

Dr Ungson is great, but I don't know that he can even do that revision, and even if he does, he doesn't have the revision track record of the two I mentioned above. You want the BEST for a revision.

So, how are you sick? What is your BMI? Do you have insurance that may cover a revision, or do you know you will need to be a self pay?

You will probably have to self pay depending on your insurance.  If the hypoglycemia is pretty bad that may be a reason for them to pay for a revision.  Most of the time they need either mechanical failure or a BMI of 40 or 35 with one or two comorbidities.
I don't believe Dr. Ungson does RNY to DS revisions.  There are only a handful of surgeons who are expert at this complicated revision.
It isn't known why Yehuda passed away.  There is no way of knowing if it was related to his surgery or health issues from when he was MO.  I think he may have had recent surgery before he passed away.  It will never be known because his religion didn't allow autopsies.
The most reasonably priced solution would probaby still to go out of country.  I think there are two out of country revision surgery, in Brazil and Spain, although I though I heard they didn't like to do RNY to DS revisions to out of country patients because of complcations.  Not too sure about that.
You can post this to the DS board and they can direct you to more information.  Also check out dsfacts.com.
I can understand wanting a revision due to hypoglycemia.  That would be miserable and I hope I never go through that.  As far as eating bacon, cheese and nuts, go for it.  They are healthy protein sources.  I am of the belief that refined carbs are a bigger problem then healthy fats.  I eat those things regularly and I am trying to regain some weight without success at this point.

Is this MiniMe / Something Else? Would your BMI disqualify you? People HAVE been revised without regaining back up to 35 or 40+ BMI, but you would have to talk to the surgeon about whether revision could address the problems. If they are stoma related, it seems a possibility.

I eat REAL food every day, but not in excess amounts causing regain.  As you have heard on here from many people, no surgery will fix one's head.  There are plenty of people who had DS and never reached their goal.  I am not suggesting that DS would not be appropriate or that it isn't a good surgery.  My point is, we need to fix our issues because no one surgery will do that for us.

You stated you are "sick of being."  That's a state of mind.  Surgery won't fix that.

I wish you peace on your journey.

I think you need to delete what you wrote about Yehuda. There has been no connection between his death and his revision which was MONTHS before he passed away. Nobody will ever know why he passed away so young, but posts like this spread rumor and that is not fair to his memory.

Any time you have major surgery, you risk dying.  you risked dying when you had  your RNY.

Why can't you eat bacon and nuts and cheese?  I don't eat bacon because I am a vegetarian but I eat tons of cheese and I eat nuts, too.

I don't know if you'd have to pay for a DS yourself or not.  Do you need a revision for medical reasons?  Does your insurance cover WLS and do you currently meet their criteria?

Ava, I eat bacon, cheese, nuts, and much more.  Any revision is a very high risk surgery.  Unless you have had significant regain or are experiencing serious side effects, I wouldn't do it.  Just my two cents.

Like other RNYers have posted, I too eat bacon, cheese and nuts.
I probably have cheese at least once a day as part of a meal or snack.
Nuts---14 almonds per day as my after school snack (teacher and at 3pm I am HUNGRY)
Bacon.... LOVE it on the weekends as part of my breakfast or on meatloaf.
Yehuda's death has not been proven to have been caused by his recent or previous surgeries, so to connect him a revision is a bit unfair.
Creeping regain---time to go back to basics, protein first, no drinking with meals etc.
Revisions even in the BEST hands recommended are risky.

    " I want to eat BACON !! CHEESE !  NUTS !!   ( REAL FOOD !!! )   "

So eat bacon, cheese, nuts and real food. Plenty of people with RnY eat those foods and are fine. There's nothing magical about them that only DSers can eat them. In fact, I eat them and I have a VSG.

Yehuda did not have an autopsy - we may never know what caused his passing.

If you are dealing with hypoglycemia, "I want to eat BACON !! CHEESE !  NUTS !!   ( REAL FOOD !!! )"  are your friends.

    Eat them.

Revisions are risky -- do you have a medical condition that's worth it?

PS.  Did you change your username -- or use two of them?

Why can't you eat bacon, cheese and nuts?  These are not foods that would be considered off limits.  I eat them all fairly often and they haven't caused me any issues.

How much regain have you had?  Can you give us an idea of what your daily intake is?  And, do you follow the other RNYer rules of no drinking with meals and taking your supplements?

Oh and another thing, I'm sorry you are experiencing RA do you eat often enough to keep your blood sugars from crashing?  It's the carbs or lack of eating that will throw your RA off not bacon, cheese and nuts.

If this is who I think it is (under a new name) you've clearly stated your BMI is normal, and you've got some serious issues in general.

The DS is a gift for those who need it.  You need another kind of help.

    Good luck.

DSer at goal.  Makes me at risk in these parts.  I'll let you know where I am if you ask.
