    LADIES ONLY....HELP....SHOULD I BE BLEEDING?

Hi ladies....I'm concerned  because I am bleeding and it's no where near time for my cycle.

I have...well had a normal cycle lasts about 5 days every 28 days.

Prior to surgery my Feb. cycle was 6th - 10th.
After surgery it came again Feb. 26th - March 1st.
Then again March 25th - March 29th and now I am bleeding again!

I've called my doctor who says too watch it and see what happens however I'm still nervous...I'd like to know if any of you have experienced anything similar after surgery.

    Thanks

My periods were messed up post op. Big time.  Diet, hormones, etc.

Ditto to what Hala said. With the hormones released in the fat, the shock of the surgery, etc, the monthly cycle is anything but a nice regular cycle. Mine was 'off' for about 5 months. Now it appears menopause is starting.

A girlfriend who had surgery had gone without a period for 6 months, seriously on her way through menopause and had 6 periods in the 4 months after surgery. It's a pain, but it will eventually level out.
Your hormones are being released from your fat cells in huge amounts as you lose weight, so you can expect your period to be crazy for a while. If you aren't on birth control, I suggest getting on something FAST so you don't end up with a new baby before/if you want one!

Same here so your not alone!  I remember even with my prior surgeries my periods got all messed up.  for me I was wondering if it also had to do with the anesthesia?  Anyway it should get better over the next few months!

Thanks guys I feel soooooooooo much better! I'm definately going on birth control THIS WEEK. We've already had a little incident that I'm praying the PLAN B pill will cover!!!

Birth Control Pill is no longer effective after RNY. You need to look into nuva-ring, mirena IUD, or depending on your weight, the patch or depo shot.
Thanks - have you heard anything about the effectiveness of the Plan B pill after WLS?
That will work the same way it worked prior to WLS, I'm sure.

So good to know - thank you!
No they don't. Plan B is just a super big dose of the hormones in the birth control pill. After RNY you do not absorb these hormones in the same way. I spoke with two pharmacists about this thoroughly before my bariatric surgery. The hormones must bind with something in the stomach before being absorbed in the gut. After RNY, there is both less of that substance available and less opportunity for it to be absorbed, which renders the pill useless as birth control and it also makes Plan B less effective. I would speak to a pharmacist about whether it might be safe and advisable to take a double dose of Plan B. Keep in mind though that any one instance of unprotected sex is unlikely to result in a pregnancy. Also, as much as I hate to say it, there is a very high probability that you would miscarry anyway, this soon out of surgery. We've seen it many times on the the OH boards.
Please see my note below, they do not work the same after RNY.
This makes me very nervous! I’ve been getting conflicting reports about the effectiveness of Plan B. I’ve spoken to a couple of nurses and my Physicians Asst, and they seem to believe that it will as effective as it was prior to surgery. However on the blogs, I’m reading stories of the lack of effectiveness in patients. We’ve only been active once since my surgery in Feb. I’m sure the likelihood of a pregnancy resulting after this one occurrence is highly unlikely as you said. I think my best plan of action would be to go to my OBGYN and discuss appropriate birth control and effective dosages…thanks for your comments :)
Unfortunately, most doctors know very little about drugs and how they work. I would encourage you to speak to a pharmacist in detail about your cir****tances and see what they recommend and then your doctor.
Yes to what everyone else said.  All bets are off in terms of what used to be as the weight starts coming off.  Hope you are just fine.

I had surgery the 9th of February and have had bleeding in between cycles also. Doctor said its "normal" within the realm of what we are going thru as far as rapid weight loss. Its not fun but I will take it as a side effect of the weight loss

I hadn't had a period for 15 months prior to my RNY (menopause). Then I got it the day after my RNY. Where the heck did the blood come from so fast????
Had a total of 3 light periods, and nothing since!
    You're perfectly normal!

    Good luck with your njourney!

My periods have been all wacky since surgery, too.  No rhyme or reason to them.
