    how many ounces can you eat post op

    How much can you eat post op? My doctor does things differently than some. As soon as you come home from the hospital you are in the pureed stage...after week one you move right into chewing soft foods. I can eat a 4 oz pudding cup...is that too much? I do drag it out over a long period of time. They told me to eat until your full but at this point I never feel full...or ever hungry for that matter
     I had to be on clear liquids for 8 days, then 1week of liquids including protien shakes. Now I am pureed and will be on this for 2 weeks, then soft food until 9 weeks, then I can introduce meet. I'm not sure if that is a correct amount because I'm with you in that I don't feel full or hungry either.
     concentrate on proteins then veggies, 1-2 oz of meat is about all I eat, cottage cheese anything with protein, puddings are fine but not much protein in them.  I spend 30 minutes eating no less no more in that thirty I eat what I can slowly and then I am done.  I can eat about 1/2 to 1 cup of food depending on what it is at 1 month out.  I have been able to eat turkey chili about 3/4-1 cup everything else I eat about 1/2 up of food.  If feel full I stop and wait if it goes away and there is still time i eat a bit more.  I average 600 calories a day.

    See that's why I'm confused on my "sample menu" they have 1/4 cup of cottage cheese as a lunch option instead of pureed meat. So by all rights 2 oz is what I should be eating of things right?
    Pudding is a soft, 'slider' food---you're going to be able to eat more of it than of, say, turkey breast. How long a time do you 'drag it out ' over? I see a lot of people saying that a meal should never last more than 30 minutes, or it's grazing. And---early out, many people never 'feel full'. During surgery some nerves are cut, and until they mend, you simply don't have enough sensation to recognize fullness.

    But most importantly, you need to me measuring your food. Don't eat what you 'can', eat what you 'should'.
    Right, I haven't eaten more than my doctor's sample menu plan says to eat so I'm really confused now. One thing they said to eat was a soft scrambled egg. I made a "medium" sized egg and could only eat half of it over a half hour period. In the hospital I asked my doctor what i should be eating off of the plates they sent me from teh cafeteria and he said I should be eating it all...just taking longer to do it. I'm just really worried that I'mk stretching my stomach out.
    In case you have not noticed opinions vary as do experiences and diet plans.  You probably also will not find pudding as a meal choice.  Follow your meal plan it is a guide not the bible.  Eat what you can and when you fall short discuss with your nutritionist.  You will find all kinds of advice on here some good some based on that persons personal experinces.  If you cant eat what is suggested eat what you can and if you are not hitting your protein levels you will have to supplement either with powder milk protein or protein shakes of somekind.  I can only eat about an egg but i can eat 1 or two tblsp of cottage cheese with it. Diced chicken about a medicine cupful, tuna and lowfat mayo almost a 1/4 cup. Some mornings a small yogurt is a meal but again that is my stomach not yours. You have to learn and work out a plan with your nutritionist.

    You shouldn't be taking longer than 20-30 minute to finish a "meal". Because after  that the food starts to leave and so you can put more in. You can eat a 16 oz. steak if you take 2 hours to do it -- but that's called "eating around your surgery" and it's not a good idea.

    It's better to measure out a small amount and eat it until it's done at this stage. Your tummy is irritated and it might not send the full signal until it recovers.

    I'm 2.5 mo out.

    I can eat 4 oz of pureed. Maybe 5 oz, though I haven't tried it. I can eat about 2 oz of dense protien.

    I'm about 9 weeks out and can comfortably eat 4 oz. (1/2 cup).    Once I started eating soft foods my max was 1/2 cup.  Within the first several weeks I ate 1/2 cup of canned salmon and that was the first time I felt really overfull and the burping started.  I remember feeling uncomfortable and had to sit up as straight as possible and hope my bra band up higher on my chest to relieve the pressure.  I'm much more careful with heavier, denser proteins as a result.

    I'd be very careful and only measure out the appropriate amount (for me, it was about 2 oz right after surgery) and never exceed that in one meal. 

    Like MsBatt said, nerves are often cut, so we may not have the same "full signal" until things heal, so it can be dangerous to eat until we wait for a full signal. 

    Many say they don't get the regular full signal, but instead get a runny nose, hiccups, or sneeze when full, so till you know your bodies new signals, assuming you have any, I'd only eat a premeasured amount.

    Some times dingle berries are the lowest hanging fruit.  
    I move on to "soft" foods tomorrow! I was going to give tuna a try, but I'm scared. So far I have ate nothing that has disagreed with me and not had a "too full" pain that they said I would have...being cauteous and eating with a baby spoon. On our "sample meal" plan they suggested I try 1 oz of chicken. That sounds like a bad idea to me. I tried a 1/4 cup of refried beans like they suggested today. never been a fan of beans, but they were actually pretty good.

    Could you eat lunch meat on the soft phase? This will be my phase until 3 months in where I can start introducing newer things. I am excited to get to try new things, but very scared too.
