You might have tried eating less? (Gee, thanks.)

Blog post I found via HuffPo -

"I admit it. I’ve begun to wonder if singer Carnie Wilson’s aim is to become the poster child for people (like myself) who don’t think that invasive weight loss surgeries are the answer for most people battling excess weight.

    According to
People Magazine, Ms. Wilson had lap bad surgery on January 18th of this year – after having gastric bypass surgery 12 years ago. “[This new surgery] was the right decision for me,” Ms. Wilson tells People, “And I’m doing really well so far. It’s all about taking good care of myself.”

Taking care of yourself? Well, if that were true, you might have tried eating less, exercising more and getting plenty of rest rather than risking your life and health with another invasive weight loss surgery (especially since the first one clearly provided only a temporary fix).

As someone who lost over 250 pounds of excess weight without surgery (or pills or fad diets), I have been somewhat outspoken in regard to what I believe it really takes to permanently lose excess weight."

    Oh my GOD.  Shut up.

That's all I got right now.

PlEASE  SOMEBODY  SHUT her ( or him )  UP  Lol

While I would never wish weight gain upon anyone, I sure would not be disappointed if this ***** regained the 250 pounds they lost without surgery, pill or fad diets.  Arrogance is so unbecoming.
    How about bite me...

I really envy her ability- I didn't have it, and have a hard enough time with maintenance, let alone losing all that. And if truth be told, I would have rather not rearranged my body.

But the rigidity of her point of view leaves something to be desired.

What a pri**  er....ummmm....I mean JERK!

Doesn't he realize that we HAVE tried eating less, exercising more....and getting plenty of rest....wait, he does have a point....who has time to rest????!!! Which is why I became reliant on convenience (high calorie, high fat, empty calorie) foods. We wouldn't have changed our anatomy if that worked for us. This weight loss surgery saved MY life...and NO MATTER how much I ***** and complain about the foods I can't have, how slow I have to eat, how I have to take sips of drink, and how I have to drink constantly, and how I have to take my daily weight in vitamins , NO MATTER how many pity parties I have in a day's time...and NO MATTER how many times I ***** that my clothes are too big (WAIT! I haven't done that yet )....

I am thankful for this surgery. I'm a 44 year old woman, with a 20 year old's mind that HAD (HAD is the operative word) an 80 year old's body. This surgery is giving me my life back.

Yes dumb butt, I know that this isn't a permanent fix, it is a TOOL. Maybe if you (talking to dumb butt) had taken the time to do your research, find out about the steps that you have to take BEFORE you have the surgery (at least for the 99% of us *****ly on insurance), you wouldn't make such asinine remarks!!

You stupid dumb butt (LOL..I sound like my little nephew)

((WOW, I think I vented enough anger to take me through the next 2 hours))
slight hijack:  I've heard/seen this term quite a bit more in the last several  months than I did when I first had my surgery so I guess I'd better educate myself.

Under your surgery type Lisa it says "Mini-Gastric Bypass".  What exactly is that and how does it differ from a standary RnY?

    Thanks=)

It's a dangerous surgery that isn't approved by the ASMBS.

The main guy who performs it has lost his license to practice medicine in several states.

But she just had it in March of this year, how could that happen if nobody does it anymore due to the risk.  And what exactly IS it?  What gives it the "mini" part of the name?

    Sorry, still not understanding.=(

I didn't say no one does it. I said no one does it but quacks.

The mini-bypass is primarily being performed by Dr. Rutledge (who has lost his license in several states) and he really pushes it and has videos all over YouTube saying how wonderful it is. How it's safer than a regular bypass. But it isn't. He also claims to have "developed" it. But he didn't really. He also claims that his version is different from the original and much safer but the fact that he keeps losing his license and moving to another state shows that isn't true either.

This is basically an older version of the bypass. Instead of a Y, the intestines are done in a loop. What was found is that a very high percentage of mini-bypass patients had horrible problems with reflux afterwards because of this configuration. Also, long-term weight loss isn't good and the long-term complication rate is high. Since it has no advantages over bypass (except being easier to perform), the ASMBS took it off their list of acceptable procedures.

I used to have a link about that described the exact configuration and why it's no longer performed, but I can't find it any more. Part of this is that Roca Labs has taken over the search term so when you put mini gastric bypass into Google, you get lots of links to their "no surgery gastic bypass" product. I'll keep trying to find it though.

                                       something new EVERY day !!!

JESUS. Why didn't someone tell me the secret!????? Gosh. If I had only known. Why don't more people know this secret? I'm sure America's epidemic would surely be solved.
    MM,

There are always going to be judgemental people who are certain that they know how others should behave and react to situations.  You can't control what they say or what comes out of their mouths you can only control what kind of effect their judgement has on you.

This person can not understand Carnie Wilson's situation and shouldn't be judging her.  It is great that they have lost the weight themselves through diet and exercise, but there is still something else they need to work on. They need to understand why it is that they think it is okay for them to assume they understand Carnie's situation and why they think they have a right to question her choice.
as someone who lost 80+ pounds 3x in an effort before even considering surgical weight loss, this bish can kiss my ass.

I actually had a co worker said the same thing to me. my other co workers were so mad at her, they all pulled her aside one at a time individually to give her a piece of their mind. She is new to the store, but didnt see me three times yo-yo up and down. swim at the beach 7x a week, go from atkins, nutrisystem, to optfast. struggle with success to have it all go back a year later.

I would tell her...Yes...I AM eating less. I just added a tool!
Very interesting blog actually. He has excellent recipes, advice about exercise, journalling, measuring and weighing your food, banning trigger foods, moods and foods and all sorts of good stuff. Very much like the post surgery life we are all leading or about to embark on, God willing. Everything in his blog is totally like our food plans minus the protein shakes but it is low carb and natural, can be high fat in certain recipes. Portion size is 100% consistent with what our new stomachs will hold. Gotta take my hat off to him if he has managed to maintain a 250 lb loss for TEN years. I think too that he is a bit on the arrogant and judgemental side but I can understand that. I am kinda envious if truth be told. I mean really, who wouldn't want to do it all successfully without surgery? He managed it. I think kudos to him and his opinions about WLS are his to hold...

I have almost reached the 250 pounds lost mark...AGAIN...for the THIRD time in my life.  Only this time, I hope to succeed in keeping it off!  The last 2 times, not only did I not keep it off, I kept right on gaining, all the way up to 500 pounds at one point. I didn't even do it through over-eating. I did it through illness - being flat on my back time and time again with one tumor, or cancer, or problem after another that kept me off my feet and inactive.  My body does NOT like inactive.

I'm sorry, but who does this arrogant, self-righteous SOB think he is? Everyone has his/her own unique story and path. No one deserves to be judged like this. Huffington Post should can his skinny ass.

OK - I'm fine now. Rant over.

    Good morning!
