    Hospital 11 days post op

Got admited into hospital with severe acid reflux (sssoooooo painful)  and vomiting blood and stumach acid ( thats what the doctor said it was a very dark brown colour)  they were going to let me go home this morning untill i went toilet and pooped dark blood and blood clots,

hospital dont seem very onto it , im on a 72 hour omeprazole drip to help with my stumach lining and acid then getting a camera down my throat in the morning to see wats wrong

anyone ever had somthing similar ?  they said somthing about stumach olsers then gastritous but that was before when they were going to send me home

Last month I was in the hospital for unknown stomach bleeding. They never found it. I was scoped from end to end and nothing. They put me on protonix which seemed to stop it and sent me home. I spent a week in the hospital with none of my supplements, but got great pain meds.

I hope they figure out what your issues are. I'm thinking mine was an ulcer in the blind stomach. My gastrologist had never had to deal with a post op RNY patient, much less an educated patient.

    Good luck!!!!!!

Met my first goal, met my second goal, met my surgeons goal. Now I have a new goal!

yeah they were really pumping me with morphine last night so got good pain meds too, im not sore today tho so hopfully its nothing serious :(
OMG, yes this needs to be sorted out.  Where is the blood coming from!  So sorry to hear that this is happening to you.  Keep the pain meds coming :)

Hope you were able to sleep some.

they dont know but think its somthing to do with the lining of my stumach and the acid , and proably had an hours sleep all up since ive been here almost 24 hours im getting a camera down my throat tommorrow should be fun! lol
Good luck with sorting this out.  If they find nothing in your new pouch, then perhaps its an ulcer in the blind stomach like another poster said.  Throwing up and then pooping blood/with clots is nothing to be callous about that's for sure.  Glad you took charge of your own healthcare.  Lets hope the gastro doc knows what he/she is doing and you get it figured out soon.

As far as the Scope down the throught, I've had it done 3 times once preop, twice postop, once with a colonoscopy too (yeah!) and the scope down the throught isn't a big deal.  They will sedate you but you will be out of it and relaxed.  You will probably 'wake up' once you get to the recovery area and ask "is it done yet" really its that easy and fast.  Good luck hun and keep us posted.  I'll be praying for you.

yeah they want to do one down the throat and the other end on wednesday i really dont wanna do the other one :( but i guess if they put me out it should be fine wouldnt be awkward then lol  but im not in any pain at all anymore
Your surgery was less than 2 weeks ago?  And what surgery did you have?  What does your SURGEON say?  It is very hard to develop an ulcer on the liquid post-op diet.  Your surgeon should have seen an ulcer during surgery.  This may be a complication from surgery.
i was actuallly part of a trial and didnt get told what my surgery was it was either band or gastric bypass, but i looked at my notes and because somthings happend i found out it was a gastric bypass
That's interesting.  Not a very "blind" trial if you aren't going for fills for a lap band you could assume it was gastric bypass.  Did you even have contact with your surgeon or did they pick a surgeon for you?
its ment to be blind for 5 years or somthing like that, and yes I have met my surgeon and i didnt ezaktly get to pick no, hes the best in nz so ive heard hes running the trial but the surgery was free and i did really need it im having a meeting with him on wednesday he wants my family to come in tho im unsure why
Oh my I sure wish they could find out why this is happening. God Bless you and don't stop until they tell you what is wrong. Take care.
As another person wrote, the endoscopy isn't a big deal, your knocked out an don't even know it was done when you wake up.
Stay strong. I hope they figure it out.
    hi
sorry to hear u r in pain :(
did u get clearance from a gastreologist before your surgery?
i dont know what a gastreologist is?

Lol.  i probably spelled it wrong
i meant gastroenterologists u know doctor that specializes in digestive system. My doc says she need clearence from a gastroenterologist before she can perform surgery (as well as other doctors like lung, heart, shrink etc)

ohhh i see lol i didnt see one of them i think  but im in another country so i think its a bit different  i saw my surgeon and his nurse and then an anethitest then a dietition
Is this stuff common? I'm sitting here waiting for sleeve surgery! I can get up and run right out of here!!!
    Surgery date = 6-25-2012

While a leak in the sleeve is more common than the RNY it is still not a common side effect.  You should have asked your surgeon what their leak rate is.  That being said we dont' know what is wrong with the poster and they had a completely different surgery.

i had a very similar experience. approx 3 weeks after my RNY i was hospitalized due to a bleeding ulcer at the anastamosis site. i experienced vomiting and pooping blood too. i was hospitalized for about 4 weeks until the bleeding was controlled and the ulcer began healing. i had a number of endoscopies (camera down the throat) to perform cauterization and so the docs could monitor the situation. i was NPO (no food, only water, fed through IV) the whole time to allow the ulcer to heal.

when i got home i was on a nexium and carafate regimen of 7x/day. i was extremely careful with my diet and basically only ate the blandest of foods for months. in time, it all healed up and now i am functionally normal and have no dietary restrictions (other than the standard RNY recommendations). i still take 1 nexium per day.

it was tough, but its a known and relatively common complication of RNY surgery. i know what you're going through and urge you to hang in their, it gets much better!
