    question about pouch

I had RNY in 2004. I have had physical probs and surgeries so have gained. Not an excuse. I am considering lapband revision. I wonder why they can't go in and make the pouch smaller after it stretches. I still get really sick from sugar and dump so if I would eat right and less wouldn't it work the same as first time? I don't know was just wondering from some of you in the medical field and *****ally know what's going on. I thought the rose procedure seemed to be the same but anyone that talks about it says it is a waste of time to do. Does not work. Thanks just having a curious day.

happygirl, it's unlikely that the pouch itself is stretched - it's more likely that the stoma, the connection between your pouch and instestines is stretched. So to redo your stoma, they would essentially have to reduce your pouch further (closing off the current stoma) and reduce your intestines further (attaching at a different point), thereby increasing your chances of malnutrition.

My surgeons will do the rose/stomaphyx, but admit that it generally doesn't solve much (not sure why they do it then... I hope they're getting away from it!).

Are you sure that just going back to basics, protein-forward eating plan, getting in 80-100 grams per day, complex carbs, minimal to no refined carbs won't make a difference for you? Particularly if you add in movement/exercise?

Has your pouch stretched?  You had an endoscopy and your doctor said the pouch was bigger than it ought to be?  That happens but it's not very common.  If that is the case, though, why would you want the band?  Why not revise to something more effective and with fewer complications, like DS?
