    Please Chime In . . .

What is the average timeframe from the first visit to the nutritionist up to surgery date?  Kaiser peeps please feel free to chime in . . .
My first Nut Appoint was on 02/29/12 and my surgery was 05/17/12.

I only needed 3 months for Aetna, but that was the quickest three months ever!

Hi. You only needed 3 months with Aetna? What did you have to do in those 3 months? I have Aetna too and am just starting out. I have my physical next month. Thx!

Aetna requires a 3 month diet that is supervised by a nutritionist. Each visit was about an hour long.

The first visit was just an education about Protein and how and why your body needs it. She set me a goal of 70 grams a day and to talk about my food weaknesses and think of ways to avoid my pitfalls.

Second Visit weighed in saw some weightloss, education about carbs and how my body processes carbs, and the second goal was to reduce carbs to less than 150 per day

Third Visit was a little longer, weighed in and it was all about the pre-op diet and post op diet.  Talked about all the diet phases and how to get through them.

Your physical Eval will talk about what your body will be like post surgery and how to keep your strength and build your strength as well as document all your measurements.

The overall goal of the diet plan is to get your body ready for the surgery and I was never told, but other peoples insurance requires a true attempt at weight loss for the surgery to be approved so I followed the nutrition advice strictly so that I was approved.

    Thanks!!!!

my whole process took about 4 months i did not meet with myNUT until a week prior in  my pre op class

First visit end of November, 2010.  Surgery 9/19/11 - could have had a month earlier, but I set the date in September due to work schedules.

i think it depends on your insurance company.....do they require some kind of diet or waiting period before you can have surgery?

     Not to my knowledge!
I would call the ins. co. and see if they have any pre-req's so you can get started on them right away if you are looking to do it sooner rather than later. If they have a 6 mo diet you can get in with a doc and get it started by making an appt now.

So my appointment with the nutritionist was on June 28th. I am self pay and so I don't have to wait for insurance approval. The first available date for the surgery was September 17th but due to my needing someone to help me with my toddler I asked if it could be in November.

No clue---but I LOVE your user name!
I think it depends on the insurance and how quickly you get through your requirements. I have BCBS of IL and my NUT appt was in March 2012 and I am now waiting on my insurance approval with all clearances done.

i have united healthcare.. my first visit to the doctor was on april 26th.. there was a bit of confusion over who had my medical records, but as soon as that was straightened out, everything went forward.. i had my next appointment on june 28th, and my surgery was this past monday, july 2nd.. i looked thru my insurance coverage, and it did state that i was to undergo a 6 month monitored diet, but they never requested that i do it, and i didnt ask any questions!

Wow. I have tri-care and I know 2 others with it as well, 1 of which got through the process and had her RNY in 3 weeks! The other was not to far past that. I am hoping mine is like theirs. If it is not that's ok to. Just got my referral into the surgeon on Friday and I have my first appointment with my surgeon this week. It only took me 2 visits (about a week and a half due to waiting for blood work to come back) to get my referral in the first place, my doctor said she only gave it to me because it was apparent that I knew what I was talking about and had done my research, otherwise I would have had to wait to see the head doctor in the office.
     OMG!  That quick ?!?!?!?!?!?!
I got my final approval! My surgery date is Nov 20th!!!!
Yeah she had everything done and was in recovery in 3 weeks! She said she did it by making all appointments back to back!
