    Burning

I am about 8 days post op. I had surgery last Monday and left the hospital on Wednesday. I starting taking Hydrocodone the day I left the hospital up until about Friday. I stopped taking it because I didn't have any unbearable pain until yesterday. I have this discomfort on both side of my stomach and it hurts  when I move around so I took some Hydrocodone before going to bed and as soon as I sat on the bed I felt it burning going down and the sensation spread around my entire abdomen which never happened before. Is this normal for the Hydrocodone to burn going down? I took it around 12am and I eat early in the day around 3pm. Could that be the reason?

Any script pills should be taken more than a sip of water. New post ops have issues with drinking, so that may be your issue. BTW, there are liquid versions of some pain meds. My surgeon gave me liquid Vicodin for the first several weeks post op.  I had no issues swallowing nor any burning sensations.  Are you taking Prilosec or Nexium?  Most surgeon's prescribe this type of med to help reduce stomach acid, which might slow down the healing process.  DAVE

Thanks! I do have hydrocodone in liquid form but I will try to drink water after I take it.

Since your post did not contain the work "liquid", I just assumed you had pills, as that is the most common form. If the issue continues, even after drinking some water aftewards, I'd check with your surgeon to be safe. DAVE

I would say it is because you hadn't eating since 3pm.  Essentially your belly is empty and hydrocodone will burn because of the alcohol base in it.  Its normal to feel that burning sensation.
