    Anyone regret having wls????

I'm new, preop, 53, hoping to have surgery in a few months after insurance red tape and such.

Anyone have regrets to having the wls?
BTW-I asked this on the 50s forum but haven't received an answer yet.
I was 60 when I had RNY, and I have absolutely NO regrets.  I would do it again tomorrow if I had to.

I have been very fortunate with a complication-free surgery and recovery.  Lost all my weight (100 lbs) in 8 months.

Life is good - NOPE, life is great!

On second thought, I have one regret - that I didn't do it years ago.

You'll find a lot of lap-banders that regret it, but then again the band has a 50% failure rate at 6 years. Most eventually revise, or at least have it removed. Then there are a lot that just have non-working bands stuck in them and can't have it removed. Now as far as as VSG'er, DS'ers and RNY'ers most of them are happy with their WLS choice. Not sure what WLS you are having, but make sure you research all 4 of your choices!!!

Wow, that is super impressive. I want to be able to say those kinds of things and do those kinds of things. I can barely make it through the grocery store these days.
Not once --- I had my WLS at age 51

3 years later, I am active and healthy -- down 130 pounds

Last Fall I hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back out --- this Fall, I am going hiking in Switzerland --- I would not trade this life for anything.

    Good luck!!!

Thanks so much. I do want to know the good, the bad and the ugly. We must educate ourselves cause no one else will, at least not as much as we need.
You're looking in the wrong places is all.
I have no regrets for my DS -- I couldn't be more pleased, in fact. There is a dark side to wls, though, and if you really want to look, here you go:

1 year to lose the weight - 6 years maintaining it with the DS
There is room on this earth for all of God's creatures..next to the mashed potatoes

Only regret I have is that I waited until I was 58 to get my RNY.

I'm down to a normal weight and healthier than I have every been.
No regrets. Seven plus years later.
No regrets - had mine at 42 and will be 50 next month!

    8 years + post RNY - 100% EWL and maintaining ...

I am 56 and had my RNY 4.5 months ago...Not one regret!!!

I am down 100 pounds and the only regret is why I didn't do it sooner!!!

Best of luck and I am sure you are doing the right thing. Do research and make a decision based on how you feel and think. No one can make the decision for you and no one can tell you how to live your life.

    Best to you

The first thing when I came to from the operation was "Oh girl what have you DONE?!" I puked...and I was over it.
The worst was the recovery from going under, because I am a horrible mix with anesthesia.
Hell I even had an esophagus bleed, and I would still do it in a heartbeat.
I'm still new, but I have so much energy now! I want to do stuff, and get out there and enjoy life!

Boy has it been a LONG time since I posted here.

Seven year post-op. Love life and never been happier.

Heidi!!! I remember you! How you doing girlie? You look fabulous. :)
Even with the complications I had...sleeve did not open up after surgery, got very sick then had to have RYN ...I would do it all again.  Even if I had to do it with all the complications I would do it all again.  Make sure you do your research and understand what you are getting into.  Good Luck

Wow, I'm so glad to hear that. The complication possibilities are very scary to me. I hope I'm not one that has them but if you would still do it again, I guess I can face it too. Thanks for sharing. It helps alot.
I'm 8.5 years post-op from my DS, and still think it's be best thing I've ever done for myself.
