    lap band after nissen??

    Hello!

I'm a newbie to this forum and was just wondering was it possible to have a lap procedure after a nissen? Have any of you had this experience?
When you say "lap procedure", I assume by the title you are meaning the lap band. Just to help clarify, "lap procedure" applies to all of our surgeries, that are done laproscopically, like DS, RNY or sleeve.

You need to look at all the different choices of surgery, and you will likely re-think the band. Poor statistics for loss, maintenance and problems.

Go to all the boards, and see what you can and can't live with. I narrowed it down to the sleeve if I could get by on restriction alone, and the DS if I needed the help of malabsorption and didn't like some aspects of RNY.

I found it helpful to make an actual list of pros and cons, and when I had everything on it, the choice for me was a no-brainer.

Sorry, I meant Lap Band. I have looked into other weight loss surgeries I'm just a little apprehensive considering all other surgeries are far more invasive.
You need to read about all of the complications with lapband over the last few years. The less invasive gem gets more than a comfortable number of slippges and stomachs eroding around the band causing emergency removals..

i had nissen then had rny but im not sure about the lap band because they have to go in and untie the nissen first im sure with a good doctor it can be done. Just dont know if you can find a doctor to do it. do you live in michigan area. my doctor has done many nissen patients but he dont do lap band he dont like them. id look around for doctors by calling and asking thats what i did then do some research on what surgery you want. since you hada nissen im asuming you had bad reflux and heartburn so lapband may not be a good choice. Thanks for your response. I have found a doctor that says he could do it. I'm actually scheduled for an endo and an upper GI to see what is going on considering I had the nissen before I was 1 yrs. I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences with these 2 procedures.

The LapBand is notorious for causing acid reflux.
Personally I wouldn't recommend the band to my worst enemy, they are not what they are portrayed to be. I've had mine close to 5 years but had it emptied over a year ago because of the pain it caused. The manufacturers are now saying it isn't meant to be a life time surgery and should be removed between 5-10 yrs. It also as Ms. Batt said causes horrid reflux for many and for many others it just flat doesn't work like they say it should. I never had a decrease in appetite or felt full no matter how tight I was. So please investigate all of the surgeries and find one that really will work for you. The band is just not a good choice for long term.
