Tomorrow is the day! 1st visit

Tomorow is my first visit with the Dr. I am nervous but anxious and have been waiting for a looong time for this appt.

I am taking a notepad with my questjons, though I already went to one of his seminars earlier last month, I'm not sure what else I could ask.

What does the first visit consist of?
They weighed me  ,took my blood presure and asked me what surgery's I was thinking about.  The nurse then came in and asked me a bunch of medical questions about my past  health & currently any problems I was having..  I then went into the Doctor and she told me all about each procedure in depth ,  pro's / con's and what to expect in recovery time.  I asked a bunch of questions and then she told me that I would have to do some pre-lims and after that I could schedule surgery.  the prelims are alittle different for everyone,  but I had to do a sleep study, a phsicological eval, see a nutritionist, and  do an EGD ( tube down the throat ) .  depending on insurance regulations or if your a self pay makes a difference also.  Then depending on the results of all the tests you may have to do other tests...... or requirements.  I needed to get a Cpap machine and had to be at 100 % compliance in use.  I did all the pre-lims over a few months time frame.
also depending on your health background you may have other things they want you to do.  MY sister also has to do an EKG before surgery.....

Good luck on your first visit.. :) Anything that will happen on your first visit, and what the doctor says share it with us,. We will support you. :)
Congradulations on going to the first visit.  Along with what everybody else mentioned,  write down questions for your second visit.  There will be so much going on that one question usually leads to another.

Congrats on your first visit!! I got my surgery date for January and now I'm on the road to doing ALL the pre-op requirements. Boy the list is long but I'm on my way!!!! Best of luck!!!!!!

You may realize after you leave the Dr's office that you didn't understand something fully or are confused.  Don't hesitate to call them and get a better understanding!! THIS IS FOR YOU!!! After my first visit with the surgeon and signing a million forms-I left there and had NEW questions so I called and they helped ease my mind!!!
Did it! went to my 1st visit, Dr. was late, waited 2.5 hours but well worth it.  Saw the nurse who asked me a bunch of questions and what surgery I was thinking of, took vitals etc, spoke to the Doctor and the fellow, both were great! I am happy so far with my Dr and the office.

Also spoke to the insurance lady, 2 options were given to me, since I have AETNA, I could either do the 6 months supervised nutrition or 4 months with supervised excercise regimen, I chose the 6 months, hence whats 2 more months!

I also need to see a physocologist and have a ugi(tube down the throat...uuugh)

I will also see the nutritonist in 2 weeks and did blood work today.

good thing that everything gets along very wqell on your first vist. Wish that everything will be good on your next visits :)
