    Pre-Packaged/Pre-Made Meals..

Since school starts next week (at least for me) (I've gone back to college to obtain my Nursing degree) ((YAY ME!!)), most of my meals will have to be quick fixes. Other than cooking all of my meals on Sunday and pulling them out as I need them (which is what I plan to do most of the time), I would like to also try some prepackaged foods.

What meals (frozen or dried) have you found to be the best choices? I'm only 5 months out, but I seem to have no problem with any foods (even raw veggies!!) (I haven't tried rice yet...I'm too scared) (smile)

    Hi Lisa,

You are much further out from surgery than I am, but for those on-the-go days, I've been eating some of those Morningstar Farms frozen foods. I've had the breakfast sausage and 2 types of their "burgers". They are high in protein and low in calories and fat. You can pop them in the microwave for a minute and have something quick.

    Good luck in school!

You can try some of the Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones.  Not always the best choices, but eat the protein and vegetables and throw away the rice or pasta.  Also there are lunch packs with meat, cheese and crackers.  I eat the meat and cheese and throw the crackers away.  Muffin in a Minute makes a nice one minute breakfast that you can eat in the car if you have to.  There is a meal called steamers that is steamer vegetables.

Your school will probably have a cafeteria or vending machines.  Sometimes there are good choices in there like the tuna lunch packages.  A can of tuna and a plastic fork always works for me when I want a lot of protein fast.  I also carry cheese sticks, beef jerky, ready to drink shakes, and protein bars.
You are not what you eat, you are what you think.

I have found that with a George Foreman grill I can just defrost some chicken breasts or small steaks and put them on.  Five minutes later you have dinner.  You can steam some veggies, maybe have a small salad from a bag and you have a fast meal that is cheaper and healthier then what you can buy frozen.  Frozen dinners make me nervous because of the sodium and carbs.  I also will cook a bunch of chicken thighs and freeze them grab one from the freezer and put it in the fridge before I leave.  When I get home all I have to do is microwave for a minute.  Like I said, steamed veggies or a salad are easy, quick sides.

All my posts are just other people's opinions that I've stolen from other boards.

I have found 3 Lean Cuisines that have only meat and veggies and do not have starch (rice, potatoes, or pasta).  They are 160-200 calories.

One is beef with broccoli.  One is chicken with spinach and one is turkey with green beans.  They are all good.

    Thanks everyone!

2012 has been a rebuilding year for me. After spending the last 25 years in the corporate world, I decided to take on a profession that can make the difference in the lives of others. Leaving the corporate world has also made my bank account skinny...so I decided to make myself skinny in the process, LOL

I am in my second year of college, and for some reason...I'm nervous (but yet giddy) about starting tomorrow! LOL

Thank you all again for your suggestions.

I suggest to just buy some tupperware type dishes and make your own food and freeze them.
Pre packaged, premade food are full of chemicals which is one thing that does'nt help our weight loss.

I always did well by filling up little containers of crab salad, chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad and buying wheat crackers. It is so easy to just grab and go!
I found buying the rotisserie chickens at Costco works well for me.  I bone the whole thing and freeze in 3 oz packages.  Then I can take one and thaw in the fridge or microwave and eat with a salad or a chopped tomato.  That is a meal for me.
