    Foley Cath

Have upcoming surgery and have zero hospitalization history. Scared to death to be catherized.  Knowing insertion will occur after anesthesia, how about removal? Painful?
My surgeon doesn't do it. I did have one once for heart surgery. They put it in while I was asleep and it didn't hurt at all to be taken out.
This was a concern of mine also. When my surgeon came to see me just before taking me back to the OR, he said "you want the foley cath out before you wake up?" and I said YES ABSOLUTELY PLEASE! he said, "no problem." Love that man!

I've had it before, and it does not hurt to take it out, just feels weird. I'd rather not have to deal with it at all, and I think it would have interfered with me getting up and moving as soon as I did.

Best to you with your upcoming surgery!

If you change nothing, nothing will change.

so glad you posted this...i had surgery this morning and i have been up worried about this being too "easy" and dreading the darn cathitor bing removed...i have been told by several of the nurses and my dad who had one (men are supposed to have a harder time with it than woman)that it really is not painful.  i still fear the unknown though, oh and i worry about getting a UTI

Nope, doesn't hurt to remove it at all.

Doesn't hurt to remove...had plenty over the years.

Now, I wish I had not had mine removed quite so quickly after my DS...I was in overdrive producing fluid and ended up peeing about every hour after the damned thing was removed. Apparently inside of 24 hours, I pee'ed out every bit of liquid they had pumped in PLUS more...the nurse said my output was in overdrive!

My surgeon has us to walk 100 ft before he will remove them.

It wasn't painful, but it did feel weird.
