Made an appointment to discuss revision today

I'm going back to see my surgeon to discuss having a revision from RNY to a sleeve or DS.  Reason?  Yes, I've gained some weight back, but not all that much.  The main problem is my virtually uncontrollable low blood sugar.  Almost every thing I eat causes the release of way too much insulin, and I get sweaty, shaky, and either have a constant struggle to keep my eyes open, or I just give in and fall asleep.  Considering that my lowest blood sugar reading was a 23 first thing in the morning, I'm a little scared of falling asleep and not waking up again.  I just want my duodenum back, for goodness sakes.

Not to scare you all -- give the chance I'd do this again, and maybe twice on Sundays!  Having approximately 75 pounds of excess body out of my way has been fantastic, but I'm basically down to protein and salads, and I still can't keep the blood sugar up and even.  Wish me luck!

I certainly do wish you luck!  I hope this journey goes smoothly for you as I'm sure you are quite fed up, feeling the way that you do.

You're going to need a surgeon who specializes in revision. Dr. O'Rourke is NOT one of the ones who does RNY-to-DS conversions, but if you'll look on the Revision board Smileyjamie has a thread that lists the ones who do.

Good luck to you---I know you've had a terrible time with this.

I agree with MsBatt, don't go to OHSU for a revision to a DS.  For one thing I highly doubt they would do it because OHSU stopped doing them years ago and they didn't have a great track record when they did.  I wouldn't think you would have much luck with a sleeve there, either, since the one they gave me was much too large.  You aren't that far from CA.  Maybe you can send Dr. Keshishian an email and get his opinion.

I didn't say I was going to have a revision with Dr. O'Rourke, nor at OHSU for that matter.  I'm going to talk to them about beginning the process.  OHSU's main revision experts are Dr. Wolfe and Dr. Deveney.  Not RNY to sleeve or DNS per se, but Dr. Wolfe revised one of my friends and Dr. Deveney saved my friend Kim from starving to death and revised her mini gastric bypass.  Don't worry gals, I've been around the block a few times.  I just need to get the ball rolling, as I know that this is going to be a battle, particularly with my insurance company.

I believe Deveney did LasyTazz's surgeries. Perhaps you should talk with her about him.

I hear you. The only way I can control my BS is to completely avoid starches, grains, sugar and fruits. And basic milk or regular yogurt. And SA. and... as long as I do that consistently.  Every day. One "bad" snack on oany day - may set me up for 2-3 days chasing my BS .

But adding fat to my proteins, I can keep my BS stable for now.  It is fat and proteins and then some carbs.  That combination allows me to keep my BS stable.for now.  Just proteins without fat - can and many times will make my BS drop within 1-2 hrs, natural sugars - like in fruits or milk - does also affect me. Beans, grains, potatoes, carrots, etc... all those carbs does make me crash sooner or later.  Morning are the worst, but the afternoons may be bad also.

Good luck wit the revision plans

I have very few grains I can eat.  I'll add a little barley (maybe 2 tbsp) to a pot of soup or perhaps a little quinoa.  They have a high enough protein content that I can eat them in minute quantities.  The rest are just sugar rocks with vitamins.  I basically eat protein and salad, no salad dressing.  I was eating plain greek yogurt with unsweetened blueberries and raw almonds, but even that has caused too much blood sugar drop for me.  I must admit though, the holidays are no longer a worry to get through -- there is no question as to whether I will "be good" or not.  I just can't eat sugar, flour, etc.

I used to add blueberries (1/2 cup) to my yogurt. No longer the case.  I can't eat 0% greek yogurt - but I can eat 1/2 cup full fat Greek yogurt - but I never eat that by itself - unless to bring my BS up, otherwise I add additional proteins.  I can use 2% Greek yogurt - but only when I add some proteins and fat to it - like coconut oil or flax meal.

Grains - even quinoa - no longer on my list. I may sample 1/2 tsp when cooking for others - but not for me.

I still tolerate veggies - and some limited squash - when added to meats and to stews.

I am not sure what I have- since I did not have insulin tested - I am still waiting for endo visit. During my last CT-scan (2 weeks ago) the doc saw a spot on my pancreas - so I am going to see a specialist on Thursday/  I hope it is just a spot or - the most - non-cancerous Nesidioblastosis.  I am not sure what they will need to do to find that out.

Yep - I do have nesidioblastosis, or as my medical record says, non-cancerous tumors of the islet langerhans (I think I spelled that correctly).  I produce excess insulin and cortisol.  I want my duodenum back.  I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.
