It's NON-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that you're supposed to avoid after the RNY. Steroids are fine.

Why was it prescribed for you????

Did you discuss that with your doctor?  My personal experience is that my surgeon said steroids were OK to take, that it was NSAIDS that RNY patients should avoid.  Also, while the ASMBS says WLS patients should not take NSAIDS, they don't caution against steroids.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I had an RNY in 2007.  I've had spine surgery and when flare-ups strike, I get put on steroids to bring the inflammation down.  Yes, you can take them.  Always best to discuss all this with your physician, but you can take them.
