Is lunchmeat ok?

Hi everyone.  I am scheduled for the sleeve on 10/10.  I'm on a preop diet where I have to have less than 20 carbs daily.  I see ham lunchmeat is 1 carb.  I've always thought of ham being really fattening.  Is this ok to have?  My doc said as long as I don't go over 20 carbs a day but didn't say anything about specific foods.  Thanks ya'll!

Fats and carbs are two different things. Many meats may be high fat (ham being one) but they usually are low carb.

So, is this something you would eat personally?  I appreciate all suggestions!

Yes. I do eat it. My favorite deli meats are ham, roast beef and turkey. They can be high in salt and some are high in fat, but have lots of protein. Not to mention flavor.

Deli ham is high in protein and pretty low in fat and calories. Plus, it's moist and chews up really well. It was the first meat I had when I got the ok after surgery, and I still have it several times a week. The only drawback is it is high in sodium. But since surgery I actually have low blood pressure, and was told by my doc to add salt to my diet.

And I LOVE these things. So great for "grab and go."

I did a little investigating while at the store today. The P3s price per pound is about $14.00. Deli ham was 5.99/pound, Stop and Shop cheddar cheese was 5.19/pound and a can or peanuts was 1.79. Obviously, doing it yourself will save a buttload of money, but will not be grab-and-go.
