I get people all the time telling me you lost a 100lbs on your own why you going to get this surgery???  Well because I feel its a tool that can help me get off the last 120lbs.  How do you guys feel about people asking you?  Kind of annoying

Yes, I got a few comments like, "You're not THAT big..." (Gee thanks) and "Isn't that a little drastic?" But I knew it was what I wanted for my 40th birthday and my mind was made up.  I didn't tell many people just because of the negativity.

Tell them that the surgery isn't really a tool for losing the weight - you've proven you can do that without it.  WLS is a tool for KEEPING THE WEIGHT OFF!   Most morbidly obese people have had some success with losing...we just haven't ever been able to keep it off.   That's what this tool does for you.  Maybe if you explain it to them that way it will help.  Or maybe not...because people who haven't walked in your shoes just don't get it.

I never had anyone try to talk me out of it.  I didn't tell anyone about it until after I had already made the decision to do it (and was completing the insurance company requirements), and when I did tell people, it was in a way that made it clear that the decision was made and it wasn't open for debate.

Of course, I had also not lost 100 pounds on my own, either.

I didn't have that happen. Probably because I clearly needed to do something, since I was carrying 300+ pounds on my 5'4" frame AND because I just don't tend to get to much uninvited commentary from folks.

You could always point out that surgery makes keeping the weight off easier.

I was disappointed in a few people I told about WLS.  They said something close to "why would you do that to your body willingly" and the one I like best is "you do know that that is considered elective surgery, will you insurance even pay for it?".  I answered "do you think that I didn't research about what I am doing?  and you don't make this decision today and have surgery tomorrow I had several months to change my mind".

I have noticed I have only 4 days left before surgery and the buzz on my family and friends is they are all trying to get back to eating healthy and starting to exercise.  I think the wls I'm having is motivating others around me.

Good luck

I have a couple of pat answers for that. Choose one.

1. Oh, I'm sorry. Did I ask for your opinion?

2. Mind your own ******* business. (Profanity optional.)
