I live alone during the week....so I am not going to bake, it will go to waste and besides I don't have that much time. I want to buy some protein packed snacks that are tasty and good for you.....ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Thank you,

Carol

I really only have protein snacks in my "emergency protein" kit in my purse.  I keep a pouch of tuna, some "crunchy bean snacks," and a stick of beef jerky or two.  And some nut butter pouches.

Here are links to the specific products I use:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0071N7PRA/ -- peanut butter, I get almond butter from the same company
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FRLGDLC/ -- jerky sticks
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H88BHJK/ -- crunchy bean snacks
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E3KJA18/ -- tasty chickpeas

Kays Naturals has crunchy snacks that have 12g of protein per serving. I bought them off Netrition website. They have pretzels and other crunchy stuff. gluten free also.

I am currently loving almonds  as a snack, 10 only because they do have a lot of calories.

I eat turkey bites by jack links, there's also beef/turkey jerky, polly-o cheese sticks/ baby bell cheese. Tuna/salmon packets & boiled eggs. I heard people buy those p3 snacks but I can't find them in the store. Protein bars are ok, but they're really over glorified candy bars, best to eat dense protein first.

I always recommend making things yourself, so you can control what goes into something.  Good protein packed foods to have on hand:

  • canned tuna and/or chicken to make tuna or chicken salad
  • ricotta cheese
  • cottage cheese
  • any other cheese you love
  • deli meat
  • deviled eggs (or hard-boiled if you like them)
  • yogurt
  • nuts

Many of the pre-packaged special protein or "bariatric" snacks are loaded with chemicals, so I avoid them as much as possible (although I do have protein bars available in my car and in my desk at work in case of "emergency" for a sudden blood sugar drop.)

The things I have used since my surgery 7 years ago for planned snacks are yogurt (usually Greek yogurt since it is higher in protein), cheese sticks, turkey pepperoni, boiled eggs, deli meat and cheese roll-ups if refrigeration is available (although vacuum sealed string cheese sticks can be unrefrigerated for a number of hours), and spicy pork or chicken jerky (I find beef jerky almost impossible to chew up enough) or nuts (almonds or cashews for me) for leaving in my desk or car.
