What is okay to take for constipation after VSG? I am 2 weeks out and having bad constipation (I think as a result of pain medicine). Stool softeners not working. I need something specifically designed for constipation relief. Thanks!

Benefiber, Miralax, dulcolax suppositories or milk of magnesia seem to be the popular choices I've seen on threads.

Hope you get some relief soon.

I add miralax to my daily protein shake every morning that I don't poop. It works well!

I take magnesium everyday. Stool softwners made me nauseous. It does improve after you're off the pain meds.

I'm due for surgery Dec. 4th, but I just returned from a health class. I have a constant problem with constipation and I had concerns for after surgery. I learned that you need to stay hydrated and continue walking to reduce or prevent constipation. Miralax is safe to take. I was told by my NUT that I can also dilute prune juice and have that up to 3 times daily (1-2 ounces). Be sure to confirm with your NUT. All plans are different. Good luck, I know this can be very uncomfortable.

I also have had horrible problems with constipation in the past.  I take a capful of Miralax every 2-3 days in my crystal light and it works like a charm.  Keeps me regular.  I hope this helps!

Another vote for Miralax to keep things moving. I still take it as needed at 9 months post-op. It helps immensely.
