HELP!! Depressed and not losing.

Hey everyone!

I haven't lost more than 20 pounds since my mom passed away in February of this year. In total I am about 120 pounds out. I am stalled around the 250 mark.

My husband had surgery on January of this year, and doesn't matter how much he eats, he keeps losing.

Does anyone have any advice? I picked up shakes again to start again, but I am just not motivated because my mom won't be able to see the new me. Has anyone else been in this situation? How did you over come it? I seem to have to eat something when there is food around me, my will power is completly gone.

You have to want to do this for yourself, not anyone else. You have to believe you are worth the effort.

I suggest weighing/measuring your portions and tracking your food somewhere like myfitnesspal. If you can drastically cut back on the carbs, your cravings should subside.

My advice is exactly the same as Laura's.

Do this for yourself. And if you are going to lose more, the only way that will happen is if you can find a way to eat less. You don't need to go back to shakes, but you do need to go back to your plan. Dense protein first, no simple carbs, no grazing.

I'm sorry about your mom. But do this for you.

Perhaps grief support group would help you deal with the depression from the loss of your mom.

Grief is a very difficult thing to process. Perhaps joining a bereavement support group may be helpful. Many areas offer them free of charge. Once those emotions are more under control perhaps it will be easier for you to follow your  food plan. I know for myself emotional eating led to obesity and old habits tend to re-emerge under stress. The loss of your Mom is huge. Sounds like you were close. Good luck and I am sorry about your Mom.

When my father died, I entered into a sadness that was like an absolute abyss of despair.  Grief is a terrible thing -- but food is never the bridge to the other side.  Get yourself into some grief counseling.  Try to find someone who is also experienced with eating disorders -- and comfort eating.  There is life on the other side.

I am very sorry for the loss of your mother.  I don't know if you are a mother or not, but I am.  I can tell you there is no one on earth that I love more than my child.  I would hate to think that he would waste an opportunity to get healthy grieving me.  Get some help dealing with your grief.  Taking good care of yourself is the sweetest tribute you can give to your mother.
