Never thought I would say/ask this but....

Is it possible to lose weight too quickly? I never thought that would come out of my mouth! I feel like I'm losing weight much faster than the posters on here. My starting weight was 254 in April 2014, I was 221 the day of my VSG on 10/30/14... I am now down to 164. I had trouble getting food down at first and could only consume about 300 calories a day for the first 3 weeks. I've moved up now to 900 calories a day - my surgeon said he would be happy with 800-1000 calories a day. I am following all my post-op instructions and advice from my surgeon but I am a bit nervous I am losing too fast. I probably shouldn't be concerned as all my labs have been normal and I'm set for my second post-op appointment next week with the surgeon. Anyone else feel the way I do?

I had 100lbs to lose and lost 120lbs in 6 months - a victory as far as I was concerned!   I gained 20lbs at year 5 but happy with HOW it happened at 10+ years out

You must be very young.  The first time I set out to lose weight, before WLS I was about 20 and I lost somewhere around 80 lbs in 4 or 5 months.  The weight just flew off.  Of course it flew back on much faster and every weight loss attempt after that was much harder.

That said, I felt I lost pretty fast as well this last time, especially given that I was a revision.  I started at 220 and lost about 80 lbs in 6 1/2 months, unbelievable since I was also in my 50's but I wasn't complaining.

I think the biggest problem you may have is your body getting smaller before you can wrap your mind around it.  It will take time to get used to being smaller and those who lose weight a bit slower have an advantage, I think, if gradually processing the changes, where if you are becoming small for the first time in your life it may be a lot to deal with.

Kind of like a whirlwind romance.  It just kind of seems to be happening too fast.  Don't worry too much about it.  As long as your are doing what your doctor likes you will be fine physically.  As for as the emotional journey you might want to seek out a support group or some counseling to help you deal with all the changes you are going through.

Thanks Ladytazz,

You're probably right about not being able to wrap my brain around it. It just doesn't seem right. I do have a therapist and I'll be sure to mention it to him and see what he says. Thanks for your response!

Hi . good Morning!  I had surgury on 12/3/13 and was  268 the  day  of  surgery .  By 5/14 i weighed 162. By august  i was 124 and now 109. I was an emotional  roller coaster because  i never thought I  could  be  so  thin. Not  that  I  dislike  like my weight  but it  takes  time  to  adjust. ..i think  going to counseling  is a great   idea. I know  I  put myself  in  couseling iby September and it has helped  m  tremendously.

I don't think I'm losing too quickly and I have similar stats (though I weighed 30 pounds more than you at surgery, but mine was in mid-Aug).  I'm at 171 right now. I'm not worried about it.

It's a problem I would not mind having!  But I am older (56) so while my weight loss have not really been slow (75 lbs in 6 months) admittedly after the first few months my expectations became high and I thought right now I would be around 250lbs or 20 lbs lower than I am. I can imagine it would be hard to lose weight that fast and for your mind to adjust along as quickly! Yet, you appear to be taking in the proper amount of food and your labs are ok so GOOD for you! I guess we all lose at different levels and different ways but congratulations!

Unless I did my math wrong that is around 2 pounds a week. That is roughly about what you are supposed to lose if you are doing what you are supposed to be doing.
