High protein pasta. Yes or No?

hi everyone!

I saw saw an add in a weight loss magazine for a pasta that has 17 g of protein and 7 g of fiber per serving ( 2 oz dry)   I know I would not eat an entire cooked serving but the net carbs were low because of the high fiber. Would you guys think this would be ok to add in small portions?

I think honestly, if it sounds too good to be true.....it usually is. Without anymore info, I'd say pass on it. You're still VERY early out and need to focus on tried and true protein sources.

It would be helpful if you posted the brand name, the nutrition info, the ingredients...or a link to a site where we can look at the product ourselves.

I do agree w/ the 'if it sounds to good..." motto also.  I am going to investigate this further and see if the Nutrition Information is correct!!!!

What is the brand name?

Adding extra meat to the sauce and just eating that with some cheese works for me on spaghetti night or anything like that.  Something like spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles are pretty good too (when you can have that stuff, since you're less than a month out).

It's the sauce that makes pasta wonderful.  I recommend finding other ways to enjoy the sauce and gooey cheeses.  I've tried a couple of modified pastas, and they were all kinds of nasty.

They add protein to a lot of things these days, it's the latest trend. They addd protein to cereal, for instance. It turns out to be a lot higher calorie, and not much more protein. And crappy tasting.

But part of the protein rule for us is not just protein -- it's DENSE protein. It keeps you feeling full and satisfied for longer, which helps us eat less. Pasta is not dense, and it's still a lot of carbs. You could eat too much of it, and you'd be craving more.

Stay away from the net carbs trap. It's usually just a way to rationalize eating more, like eating back exercise calories. Just count carbs as carbs.

Be sure to read those protein cereal boxes.  I did so once and the protein count was *including* 6 or 8 oz of milk....very deceptive...as much as writing "Gluten Free" on a can of green beans.

Sometimes I'll see a "Gluten Free" sticker on a package of steaks. I never know whether to laugh or cry.

Just this week, following the nutritionist's program, I was able to start trying food without restrictions...meaning no longer on liquids, purred or soft foods.

Really hungry for pasta???  I put together a sauce full of portabello mushrooms and grated Parmesan Reggiano on top and wa-la!  I did not miss the pasta.  I ate 3oz and was totally satisfied.

My primary three meals are 90% of the time dense protein.  I am not as guarded about fats now as I was initially.  I do feel satisfied after eating and do not have carb cravings.  This is because of the tool have in place.  I know I must respect it.  May I continue to protect and use it wisely for a lifetime
