Try to stay as busy as possible.  I got through it by looking at the before and after pictures on here and thinking "I want that".  I also would remind myself why I was doing it.  Thinking big picture not just in the moment helped me.  Pre surgery I ate dense protein and vegetables with very few carbs.  It helped fro when I was post op, I lost weight, and it trained me on choices.  Good luck.

Eat protein first. And then some veggies.  Do not drink water during your meals and wait 30 minutes after eating - helps you stay full longer!  Before reaching for the starchy carbs (rice, potatoes, pasta, corn, etc.) make sure you eat a full serving of your protein and your veggies before hand, and take a very small serving (1/2 cup or less) of the starchy stuff.  When I was pre op (just last week, lol) I had a tremendous appetite but I found that most of the time, I was totally full before I could get to those carbs.  This is not only good for weight loss, it's good practice for post WLS eating, when we have to eat protein first.

Good luck!

I have to start practicing eating without drinking.  I think that will be a huge hurdle for me to jump.

It's so hard. I'm glad I started trying to practice this pre-surgery.  Tough habit to break! I would drink at least half my daily water with my meals so getting my water in outside those times proved a challenge for me.

I definitely found that I did stay full longer when I dint't drink during meals and for 30 minutes afterward, even ore-surgery. YMMV of course, but hey it doesn't hurt to try.  If nothing else, you're working on the habit!

This was one of the hardest things for me too, especially since I could guzzle 2-3 diet cokes with any meal.  It took some mourning, but I'm so used to it now :)  xoxo

Since you are preop - drinking with meals may help you get full.

More fiber - salads, non starchy veggies can fill you up without adding too many calories. Adding pickles (SF) can help with some crunch.

Adding some flax meal, or chia seeds to foods adds fiber and some healthy fats. Eating slow will help also.

Apples.

Apples SAVED MY LIFFFFEEEE during this stage. Bulky, sweet, satisfying fiber.

Good one.

I would also slice the apples and put peanut butter on them. Super filling snack.

In the pre-op stages, trying to lose weight even before your pre-op diet, you could eat lots of green veggies, lots of raw veggies. The sort of things that add bulk without many calories, and the sort of foods you probably wont have room for post-op. Things that are described as " free" foods on various commercial programmes. Slices of lean meat work for me.

i disagree with a previous poster - before surgery, drinking with meals helped to fill me up.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
