Hypothyroidism & Gastric Sleeve

I've been having issues with my weight for some time now and finally decided to look into gastric sleeve surgery, as I just couldn't seem to lose the weight on my own. After having my lab work done I found out I have hypothyroidism (under active thyroid) and was recently put on medication. I want to feel better and get my thyroid working again. Now I'm just nervous that this will affect my weight loss after surgery. If anyone with hypothyroidism has had success with gastric sleeve, I'd love to hear your stories. Thanks!

I know so many women with hypothyroidism that it feels like a normal part of getting older.  It is easy to control with medication and should have no effect on your surgery.  You will still have hypothyroidism after surgery and still need to take your medicine.

I have it. I have also had the sleeve in December.  I am not having any issues losing weight.  Everything is fine as long as you take your medicine as directed by your doctor.

I have underactive thyroid too.  It hasn't affected my WLS weight loss as far as I can tell.  xoxo

I was on Synthroid for several years before VSG and I still continue to take it.  It had absolutely zero impact on my success with the sleeve.  If anything, catching this now and getting medicated should make it easier for you to lose weight.
