Canadians Purchase Medical Tourism Insurance?

I am a Canadian scheduled for VSG in Mexico for Sept. Are there any other Canadians that have purchased any kind of insurance for medical tourism?  I have travel insurance through my work, but it doesn't really cover scheduled procedures and anything that might go wrong. Also, anyone go alone, cause I am, and Im wondering if this isn't a good thing for my nerves.  I have never had any kind of surgery before. Any feedback on any of these topics from a Canadian perspective would be much appreciated!
